So I go on a checkup. My chubby lil' doctor who once advised I lose weight
and referred me to the Weigh Control department where a fat lady asked if I
had any bowel movements today.. looked at me and said -- hey! You lost
weight. (I never did go back to that place. they had their Pyramid upside
down and sideways:)

I of course said : Sure man. So can you. He said he had tried for years.
So I told him I'm low-carbing. He says Aha.. so that stuff works? It's not
another marketing ploy? So I said - You're the Doctor. You tell me.

All in all, he's picking up a copy of Atkins, Protein Power, Neanderthin
and a carb counter.

I'll see him at his next checkup. Oh wait. That's MY checkup! Dang. Life
is confusing!

If this was not true, it'd be funny:) It is however how it went down
today.

   Best Regards,

                Steve

It just goes to show how poor the training in nutrition is for doctors.

How can they have good training on nutrition when apparently no one is
certain what good nutrition is?  The healthcare establishment is still
promoting the low fat theme.

Well, a basic understanding of why something like LC works is now
available...WE here understand it, so shouldn't ANY doctor?

Well, there's a hell of a lot to keep up with in the medical field and I'm
not sure that LC is widely enough accepted to be considered mainstream.  I
have a feeling that a lot of doctors are going to be educated about it by
their patients.

It's a problem but there doesn't seem to be consensus on the solution yet.
I think they will wise up over the next few years but it's a ways off and an
uphill battle since big business politics seems to influence health care way
too much.

And the ADA is still recommending low-fat.

My NP was aware of it.  Not all Drs and NPs have their heads in the sand.
She didn't try to discourage me.  She did suggest I try another diet when
strict LC stopped working.  Low-fat/low-carb/moderate protein seems to be
working now.

My NP and nutritionist both told me to cut my carbs out but DON'T do low
carb
I thought HAH? lol so here I am again :o)

One of my good friends is going to nursing school and she told me about her
nutrition class the teacher was 99% wrong about LC so I felt I had to tell
Neleca how it really worked she didn't think it was quite so evil when I was
done.

Cut carbs but don't do low carb?  These people have a real disconnect in
their brains.

When I first heard this in my Dr's office I had to ask what the heck she
meant.  It means to CUT OUT the cakes, pies, donuts, white bread, all kinds
of cookies, crackers and chips - not to stop eating fruit and vegetables.

Whole unprocessed foods is the answer.  :-)

Have him pick up a notebook and a pen as well so he can keep his daily
carb count in it. I find using a notebook and a carb counter book much
easier then using any online program.

It *is* funny. Post how he is doing. I would *love* to know what
happens to him and learn what he thinks.

Since I'm on dial-up (they're bringing in DSL lines now) I didn't bother
with fitday either.  I took my carb counts from the cans and packages
themselves.  I also have a book on Nutrition, plus picked up Dr. Phil's diet
book.  Faster and easier then using something online.

I have DSL but I still do not bother with Fitday. Using a notebook and

I do that as well if I cannot find the count in my carb counter book.

I agree. :-)

I'm glad he's even thinking about it. He looked at me real funny. He said
I was not the same person he had seen 2 months ago. Although I got a long
ways to go  ..  Started 12/30/04  6'4"   285/260/220  (Dropped the goal to
220 from 230)  - but it does show.

I don't care who you are. A doctor or a carpenter. You cannot deny
results. He looked at the blood - Cholesterol 117 - and he said  "Bacon you
say? Eggs? Steaks? Cheese? Asparagus? Mushrooms? Hm. Good eats."

Depends. If *I* myself continue as I am going now, and I don't see why
not, then he will see more results. To some people that turns into a ME2!
But to others, perhaps, that they can't do that! They had tried to eat less
doughnuts! Nothing happened!

Time tells all. I'm just happy with my own results for now.

At your height it certainly would.  :-)

Is it a coincidence that he lives on a farm?

Some of the reasons were that I'm doing this in stages. This is my second
run. I was at 320 about 7 or 8 years ago. Dropped to around 280. And
balanced it since. Now I'm ready for the second stage. Just needed a break.
I'm happy with the timing.
