Okay, so a week or two ago I asked if drinking would knock you out of
ketosis, and found out that it would.
What other reasons would there be?
About 3 days ago I had a strip turn the darkest purple it could (for
the first time ever). However, for the past three days I have been
getting either 'trace' or 'none'. Usually I'm in around 'medium'.
I haven't done anything new, no new foods introduced, still eating
around the same calorie and carb range (1000-1200 and 10-15 carbs).
I know not to live and die by ketostix, and the scale has been going
down those couple days, but I'd still like to know why I'm not in it
;p
Thanks for the help!

I don't know, from any scientific POV. I would guess that your body temds
to conserve everything it can from your old WOE and will try to form a
balance in spite of your change in diet.
I wouldn't rely heavily on the ketostix, or even the scales. Get
comfortable in a healthy and balanced diet, and don't worry too much about
what the ketostix or even the scales say.

Well, it really depends on how much fat in your body and how much fat you want
to loose? Try to increase good fat/oil intake and stop counting Calorie. If
you are comfortable of drinking olive oil, then drink it. You should feel your
body heating up, get more excess ketone and loose more weight.

Lose, not loose.
English, it's what's for dinner. Try some.

There's a season for them? Do you need tags like you do for deer?
Do they taste like chicken?
Take care,

They seem to be very rare these days.

Just because the stick doesn't turn pink doesn't mean you aren't in ketosis.
The sticks measure **excess** ketones that spill out into your urine. If
your body is using all the ketones you produce then you won't have any extra
to measure. Or if you're drinking plenty of fluids the concentration of what
is there could be too low to be detected. We also produce other types of
ketones that aren't detected by ketostix.
If I were you I'd save the money you'd pay out for those sticks and buy a
nice steak or two. :o)

I can second that. Since I started aiming toward (Atkins) Maintenance,
the stix have been nil or just barely pink. Sunday we made a chicken
wing recipe, of which I ate A LOT. For curiosity I checked a stick the
next afternoon and it was **heavy** purple. Wings with skin are, of
course, mostly chicken fat.
Unless they're buffalo wings, in which case they're buffalo fat.
Aren't they?

Yes they clip their wings when they are just born thats why the buffalo
wings are so small. They need to do this at a young age because you can
never catch the buffalo when they are adolescent never mind the poop on
cars.

Drinking enough water that your urine is dilute.
Using more of your ketones with activity.
Testing at the wrong time of day -- you don't necessarily have
*excess* ketones to show up in urine at all times.
Some people are knocked out of ketosis by sugar alcohols, and some
are knocked out by citric acid in soft drinks.

Just a thought, if you insist, you can test a drop of your blood to see the
level of your ketone in the blood.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!
I think I narrowed it down to the fact that I was using them when I
got home from work. Which was after I'd drank a LOT. I know the water
debate but I usually bring 4 500ml bottles of water with me to work. I
drink them all at work and I *usually* end up also buying another
591ml bottle from the machine and once in a while as a treat getting a
355ml diet pepsi.
So after I come home I could have drank up to 3L of liquid ;p
Maybe it's best to check first thing in the morning, if I can remember
on my half-asleep stumble to the bathroom ;)
