>>Yay! 25lbs gone since I originally started in December (I did
induction for 2 weeks, went off over the holidays [because I'm dumb]
and then restarted induction on Jan 4th.
my question is this....did you start eating the holiday cookies and
candies and such? and if so, did you get sick or anything?
im not sure why, but every single time ive done atkins, i get VIOLENTLY
ill when i have sugar. its not just feeling woosy or whatever, its
like the flu, but worse, chills and fever, nausea, vomiting... almost
like sugar shock or something. i seem to react pretty bad to it.
anybody ever hear of this? so far i havent found 1 single person thats
ever had that problem. its also the reason that i gave up the first
few times

Didn't you say you were diabetic? Going from a low-carb diet to a sudden
sugar load was probably your problem. When I went off LC last Dec 1st I had
no symptoms at all, but I'm not diabetic.

no im not diabetic, i just tell folks at restaurants i am so they dont mess
my food up when i ask for no sugar/salt/spices etc and they dont get the
passively threatened lawsuit. i think the hyperinsulinism doctor atkins
describes in the book is exactly what i have. when i did a fasting glucose
test, it was normal, around 90. when i came back after eating a normal
meal, it was 290! i have the highside of diabetes, but not the low side.

Bad news, you probably are diabetic. Two random glucose tests, (like after
a carby meal) 200 or higher is the definition of diabetes. The high side is
the only one that counts to get the dx. Have you had an A1c or an OGTT?
Often, in women. there is already damage from high BGs by the time the
fasting number starts to rise. If anything you eat makes you go to 290 you
have probably already lost at least some of your first phase insulin
response. But, since you are low carbing, the OGTT is probably the only
test that will show it.

I don't puke (though I wished I could, I would feel better), but I would
feel as if I kicked back a 1/5 of whiskey the night before. I would wake up
extremely hung over, suffering a migraine, weak, nauseous. Also, I wouldn't
have gotten any sleep the night before because I could feel my heart banging
in my ears, loud enough I would swear my husband could hear. A couple bouts
of that made me really realize that forays into sugar just wasn't worth it.
Keeps me in check.
I don't think so much an "Atkins" thing, it's a sugar thing.

omg lisa, we are almost carbon copies of each other, even down to how sugar
affects us, and the panic attacks and everything

Honestly, no. I had like turkey dinner and booze mostly ;p
Starches mostly - I probably had the odd cookie or something but
nothing near what I would have usually eaten ;)
I only gained 3lbs from going off it like Christmas day and restarting
