When I started Atkins December 4, 2003 at 234 pounds, the goal weight of 150
pounds sounded like an impossible goal. We are talking about a weight I had
not seen in 20 years. The Atkins.com & Fitday journal asked for my goal
date, so I posted a modest July 20, 2005, my birthday.
Even after a year of losing, I still didn't want to get my hopes up and got
comfortable at 184. After all, I'm 50 pounds lighter! that was something to
get used to and was now just losing a pound or less a month.
January resolutions are for the birds, but diet wise, not a bad idea try
something new, so I PAID for Fitday, bought some cross country skis and
reintroduced myself to the treadmill. "lets just see what happens" Fitday
paid version gives you your projected weight loss for what your doing now
and I said" Yeah right." Even the robo challenge here- I kept my mini goal
low because of low expectations.
Something reclicked! Keeping under 2000 calories, getting some type of
cardio in every day ( even if it was only 20 minutes on the treadmill when I
didn't want to, or a walk around my neighborhood) and net carb level varies
between 20-40 a day.
I hit 177 this morning- weighed 3 times and checked the balance on the
scale....and Fitday says at this rate I'll be 160 in May????? Dang, you can
still teach an old dog new tricks. I do believe my revelation was in that TJ
Max dressing room-buy size 14 bathing suits!!!! I will be wearing them in
April, but 3 suits is an investment in not gaining any weight back.
If your in a rut, try something new.

Good for you, sounds like you are really earning your rewards and it's a
great felling when you get close. I am about 20lbs from goal myself and it's
only been about 4 years of being fat for me (2 yrs were being preggo) So I
can only imagine how nice it must be for you after 20 years!!
Now - make sure you keep the reciepts for those swimsuits! You are hoping to
only maintain your loss but you may be a sz 12 or 10 by spring :o)

You could be right, but I still wont believe it till I see it. I still cant
comprehend it. Being that I'm 51 now, I know this is a totally different
experience. My weight is very much connected to my hormones.
I hit my military weight limit briefly in 1987 ( I would crash diet, sit in
tee sauna and was always on the overweight list) and found out I was 4
months pregnant just as I was finally under the goal of 164- guys just don't
understand what us Moms go through.
maintaining weight of 160, I have to think back to when my daughters were
babies. Of course I thought I was fat, back then.

So you ate less, exercised more, and you began to lose a lot more fat?
Amazing! Who'd have thought that would work? Now imagine how much
faster you'll lose fat and gain LBM by dropping to 1600 KCal/day and
introducing resistance training.
diane - 20 Feb 2005 13:30 GMT
Your probably right! I'm still tweaking the diet- not eating after 6:30 pm
helps, but my darn work schedule keeps me challenged, if breakfast is at
5am.
All I know is I never want to see those lost pounds again!

There is 1 thing that I am doing this week that might have a answer for the
dramatic drop this week. I have a no carb breakfast of bacon and eggs, and
save my low carb cereal, yogurt, shake or muffin (3-5 carbs) till mid
morning break. Kind of a carbless fast of 14 hours, but enough energy
300-400 calories) to work on the job and not get hungry. Dinner is the same.

I doubt if skipping carbs has much to do with faster weight loss beyond just
lowering appetite. It is likely just attributable to the generally whacky
way weight loss happens, especially on LC. Dropping to 1600 kcals would
likely help you make your goal date, though. I think it would be cool to
hurry up those last few pounds!!
Oh, I've found for me that it make no difference when I eat as long as I
hold carb and calorie levels.

Maybe it was just time for me to finally cash in on my perseverance. I try
to exercise regularly, but I am a bad example.
I had a few days of eating less carbs, but a few days of eating more, but
the calorie intake stayed the same. The other side is maybe when I wasn't
recording on fitday, that I was eating more than I thought I was. After many
months it seems like you are writing the same thing down, but still needed.
As far as dropping weight faster- I'm not that interested. I'm more
interested in making permanent changes. Every change will be a permanent
one- so that is a personal commitment.
You mention 1600 cal, somehow that is a disturbing thought, though some days
it is a easy goal..
goes way back to when I had to keep my weight down I bet.

Yeah, like eating less and exercising more.

Fitday is a powerful tool.
Keep up the good work. Stay focused on the calories, and be patient.

EXCELLENT job, Diane! Exercise certain can make the difference. I've
had some stamina and injury issues over the last six months that have
curtailed my exercising, and my slower rate of loss has reflected that.
I DO exercise, but not as often because I keep getting sick and/or
rundown and have to back off again (I've learned that if I DO exercise
when I'm feeling rundown, I WILL get sick). It sucks being such a
delicate flower :-)
