Got on the scale when I went to the gym - 176.5.  More than I have
ever weighed . . .  at 5'4" too much.  I'm now in the middle of day
three without a lot of discomfort.  More important is not obsessing
about things and being patient.  I think 115 is a good weight for me.

I would love if people could post their success stories - weight lost,
time it took.  Success can be a great motivator!

HI Kaede,
I completed my first week on Atkins today with a weight loss of 7lbs so
far. I know it's not really a sucess story yet but I thought I would
post because I would also enjoy reading some sucess stories. I'm 5'4"
too and 154 lbs now. I also want to get down to 115 pounds. It would be
so great to be at 115 for swimsuit season!
Good luck :)

Success story here. I'm down to about 142, which for me is my goal. I
came down from 178. I started low-carbing in March of last year. I
figured I wouldn't ever budge 148, and I  switched over to
"maintenance" about ten pounds ago and decided to focus on fitness
instead of weight loss. However, I started losing again (even after a
couple of serious "cheats") after I started a *modest* fitness program
(lots of walking, and some weights a few times a week). Now my size 12
pants are feeling baggy. I seem to still  be losing inches. Because I
am working on muscle building, I am not bothering with weighing myself.

There's no "universal" weight that everyone of a specific height should
weigh. I am 5'3, and at 135 I start looking unhealthy.
Artie - 23 Feb 2005 00:24 GMT
Started Atkins January 2004 when I got on scale and weighed 200lbs @ 5'6".
Six months later 160 and in maintenance. Still feel great, blood work is
excellent. Still 160 and following LC WOE.
Good Luck,
Art

I've been low-carbing for 20 months and have lost 61 lbs.  I lose much
more slowly than the average, but I'm very sedentary and in the process
of peri-menopause.  The important thing is that I HAVE been losing (and
still am) and I feel SOOOO much better.  I've been told that my progress
photos (URL in my sig) are quite inspirational, and I know *I've* been
inspired by those of many others, so check them out whenever you see a
URL for one.  Trust me, if *I* can do it with all my health/structural
problems, *YOU* can!

Started Aug. 1 at 305 lbs.  Fairly constant 3lbs/week loss down to 250,
fairly constant 2lbs/week loss since.  Average ~1300 cal/day, ~30 carbs
(my limit for OWL).  217.6 yesterday am.  Be conscientious with Fitday or
other intake monitor to avoid intake creep/hidden cal/carbs.  Calories
count.  I don't eat lots of little meals, but if I start getting hungry I
try to pop an ounce of cheese or something before it turns into "I need to
eat a horse now"; then no food for a half hour to let it take effect.
Good snacks: cheese cubes, olives, biltong (South African jerky).  Snacks
I can't stop eating so don't bring in the house: nuts, dark chocolate (I
had no interest in chocolate before low carb, go figure).  Compromises to
"strict" plan:  screw it, I'm drinking my Diet Pepsi!, no breakfast.
Regular intense exercise helps keep burn rate up, but doesn't need to be
long - weights 10 reps, 20 minute workout; bike/elliptical 30 minutes.

Just my $.02.

I was up around 200 or more after 2nd child. lost about 14lbs on SOuth Beach
but was always hungry and craving. I think it was because I was still
nursing the baby  so I started the diet in Phase 2 which allowed whole grain
breads and oatmeal. I became an oatmeal junkie!! I'd eat an enourmous bowl
( i did start at the proper portion but i couldn't help it!) of oatmeal with
cinnamon and raisins or sometimes grated apple. mmmm. Anyway - it drove me
insane and I went off the plan.

After weening the baby I got right on Atkins - I mean like the first day my
daughter weened I jumped on LC (I was LC before the babies) Well- I lost
abotu 5 lbs then went nuts again becaus there were so many things I didn't
have while nursing. And I had  been pregnant/nursing/pregnant/nursing for
about 4 years!!! Peanut butter was what I wanted!! And booze - LOL. SO I
took a hiatus to get some stuff out of my system.

When I got on board for good (a month later) I was 176. I consider that my
"start weight" even though I had already lost about 20lbs w/LC.

That was about July 1st 2005. I have lost 36 lbs since then and have gone
from a size 18 in the beginning of the summer to a size 6 and 8 now.

In the summer my feet hurt so much walking around I had to buy inserts for
my shoes! I thought it was from carrying the kids - no it was from carrying
my big fat self!! I have no more pain since I lost the weight.

I lost 5 inches from my hips!!

So - I feel successful :o)

Good luck to you!

I started  low carb in June of '04 at 208 and at last week's weigh in I was
148.  I need to lose 10 more pounds, so I feel a bit premature posting a
"success story".  The weight loss is great, but what I consider a success
just as important is I don't deal with constant cravings anymore.  I have
more energy,I am even back at the gym.  I was more paitent this time losing
weight because I was seeing more benefits than just weight loss, where as
before it seemed my only payback for the diet I was on was when I stepped on
the scale.

Lisa,  this is a "success story" even if you never lose the last 10.
Congratulations.!!

I am sure you are, look, and feel much healthier.  If you cannot call this
success, what
can you call it?

J, thanks, and you are right (and at least I did count the ending of
cravings a success).  I guess I tend to look gift horses in the mouth.  For
me, I have been up and down so much, weight-wise most my life, I sometimes
wonder what makes me think that *this* time will be any different?  It's
only because I'm not eating the carbs that keeps the need to eat going that
makes things different this time around.  The second I slip and eat a
___________ (place high carb item here), it'll be what the hell and there's
20 pound stuck to me again, if not more.

And then there is that "pride goeth before a fall" and all that...I think
that must be my grandma's voice somewhere in my subconscious.

Starfted SB on 1/4/04 at 236. Made my goal weight of 183 in August of 04.
Saw my doctor in Sept and he took me off my BP meds and cut my Zocor in
half.  I'm still at 183 and never felt better.

I started low carb back in late 2000, at 248 pounds. I got down to
around 190 pounds in a year. I then started to eat too much junk food
again, and drifted back up around 15 pounds in 2 1/2 years. I got
serious again about my eating at the beginning of summer, and am down to
180 now. My original goal was 175, but I'm thinking now that I need to
get down to 170, if not lower.

I haven't noticed your progress stats for quite a while.
You are making most excellent progress my dear, but then you

Hello Laureen.

Thank you Laureen.  I'm still here, still working hard at
this stuff, just haven't had much to say.

You have certainly taken on a personal challenge in a big
way and it would appear that you are adjusting as necessary
to live with the change.  I believe that you will, in 12
short months, be in awe of yourself for what you will have
accomplished and I wish you the very best on your journey.

Yeah! A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. This info was received
warmly from all in here who understood my struggle for the last 4
years. I feel wonderful and am glad I did it. I would do it again in a
heartbeat already! I am suppose to be down andother 45 pounds or so by
mid May, The surgeon told me almost everyone loses 22% of their toal
body weight by the three month mark. My first 22% is 88 pounds. I'm 40
pounds away and have lost 48 pounds in the last month. I did lose 12
right before surgery so I have lost 36 since the 31st of Jan when I had
my surgery. He said the minimum I will lose in one year is 176. I'm
going to exceed that. I hired a personal trainer and I begin March 14th
with him when my 6 week healing period is up.

Hey, now why would I blast you for an oopsie?  I know I'm kind of a
hair-trigger head case from time to time but it usually gets aimed at
people who're legitimately frigging up and doing it knowingly.  Isn't
it?

Take care,
