What's in the Bowl of soup?

I had my favorite Vietnamese bowl of Beef noodle soup. I never get the
noodles. No noodles please.

So I get the slices of beef, tripe and a few slices of onions. Eat a few
raw bean sprouts and the basil that comes with it.

Tried to do a carb count but it is not as easy as it had seemed at first.
Not knowing if they put anything like sugar and the like in the broth. Some
recipes do, some don't.

The beef and tripe are no brainers. The traces of veggies, no big deal to
count up. The broth one wonders - can it be carby for a reason I'm not
aware of, or is this safe LC fare?

Opinions please?

A lot of Asian foods add a trace of sugar.  Chinese soups can be
thickened with corn starch, which will have carbs.  Maybe you should
ask the server?

Asking the server may not help.   They'd tell you want to hear.
Often I ask them if it has pork,  they say NO.  It'd be the
mother of all pigs.

Anyway, avoid all ASIAN foods unless you prepare it yourself.
Even their spicy food has sugar.  Sugar in Asian foods is a given.
Even Dr. Atkins talks about the Asian food syndrome.

So,  I recommend staying away from all Asian restaurants if
you want to have a peace of LC mind ;)

I couldn't have done LC if it meant totally giving up Asian food.

I eat Chinese, but avoid the obvious deep-fried things in sugar sauce,
and have them prepare meals without the cornstarch.

Japanese has been harder because EVERYTHING seems to be noodles and
rice.  Sashimi is safe. I also order hand rolls without the rice, and I
have them put in extra cucumber.

Haven't had any stalls because of Asian food. As long as I'm careful.

I wouldn't get too worried over an asian beef broth type of soup
without noodles.  The asian foods that are typically a problem are the
obvious ones with breading, noodles, rice, sweet sauce, etc.  If it's
basicly a beef broth with some meat and vegs, it should be fine as
there is no reason to add sugar or starch to these.    Especially true
if you're having a bowl of it occasionally at a restaurant.  If I were
making it a mainstay of my diet, then I'd look into it more.
Otherwise, I'd just use common sense and enjoy!

The OP is talking about pho, a Vietnamese soup/broth.  I love pho, but
I've given it up for the time being due to my uncertainty over carb count.
If you google for pho recipes, most seem pretty innocuous except for the
noodles.  Would broth uptake many carbs from the noodles themselves?
