That's the odd thing. I eat pecans, pistacios, almonds, peanuts,
macadamias, all with no probs at all. Only the walnuts cause mouth sores.
Just wondering if it's something specific that I should be aware of in other
foods as well?

I eat barley, rye, oats, corn and rice, all with no
probs at all (so long as I am carefull with portion
size as they are carby). Only the wheat causes
symptoms.

It sounds to me like it is a specific food allergy or
intollerance similar in pattern to my specific one.
Avoid walnuts, eat other types. You would want to
be careful with baked goods if you weren't low carb
but it is something to remember if you decide to go
with a different type of plan: No matter what type of
plan you go on you should avoid walnuts from here on
in.

This may or may not be of interest to you...I have a parrot who can eat any
kind of nut - or any kind of food, actually - and be fine, but gets mouth
sores (well, tongue sores) from walnuts. I'd mentioned it on a couple of
bird lists and several people said that the same thing happened to them, and
it's not that uncommon for folks to get sores from walnuts
That doesn't tell you what causes them, but you're not alone at least :).

It's more than that, dear. The entire world, though chewy, has a specific
nutty taste to it. The only redeeming quality is the fiber content.
