That's very interesting, I had wondered about that as I have lost a couple
of inches (age 69). At my last doctor's appointment she suggested that 180
would be a good goal weight for me, I used to be 5'9.5" and am now somewhere
south of 5'8". When I was thin, 140 was a good weight for me. She had
looked at some chart she had and said they had revised their
recommendations.

I've discovered that many online newspapers are connected as far as
signing in goes. You can sign up with Hotmail or Yahoo or whatever for
a free email address (so as not to give away your MAIN email info), make
up personal info and then use the same id and password for various
papers without necessarily having to go through the registration
process.

Now we have a new "explanation" for those overweight folk who don't want
to face facts.
Instead of "I'm not over weight, I'm just big boned", we have "I'm not
overweight, it's just that my bones have shrunk."
Add that to the article below and we will enough excuses for anybody who
doesn't want to lose weight.

It seems that losing weight doesn't offer as much benefit as is usually
touted. The article doesn't mention the difference in people who lose
weight with exercise, hopefully (if there is any validity in this)
exercise will counter the problem.

David

Fat being lost from lean organs? Now that's something new.

I would like to know if all BMI are the same. The one at
obesityhelp.com says I would still be obese at 150????? It says my BMI
was a whopping 73.3 and I havent checked for some time but last time I
had it had dropped to the low 50's. Thats progress I guess. Those
charts dont take into account bone size though. Im built for comfort
not speed LOL. I have a 7.5 inch wrist when I am thin. Im not made to
weigh 120 by any means. I'm a hearty girl and feel great at 200 ( oh
gawd that was so long ago seeing 200!!!!).

As you obviously know (but I'm going to note anyway :)), when one
reviews insurance height/weight charts, there's generally only a 20-30
pound maximum recommended difference between small to large frames (if
one compares -low- end of range to -low- end of range, or high/high).
To wit:
6' 0" female -- small frame 138-151, large 158-179
6' 4" male -- small frame 162-176, large 181-207
(I deliberately picked the most extreme examples on the MetLife chart)

That should work for Laureen, because she's extremely stupid.

:)
Unless she's 6 foot tall, not bloody likely.

It's not likely that she'll ever be under 200 pounds either.

BMI is computed as follows:
(weight in pounds / (height in inches) * (height in inches)) * 703
***
As far as estimating frame size goes, the Met Life website provides
the following instructions:
"Bend forearm upward at a 90 degree angle. Keep fingers straight and
turn the inside of your wrist toward your body. Place thumb and index
finger of other hand on the two prominent bones on either side of the
elbow. Measure space between your fingers on a ruler.(A physician
would use a caliper.) Compare with tables below listing elbow
measurements for medium-framed men and women. Measurements lower
than those listed indicate small frame. Higher measurements indicate
large frame."
The measurement chart for this is towards the bottom of this page:

Wow, I just measured my wrist at 6 1/8" and my BMI was 35 the last time I
checked, dead in the middle of obese. I sure can't use the big bones alibi,
I guess. I think BMI is figured
(weight in pounds x 703)/(height in inches x height in inches) = BMI
If different sites disagree then one or both is wrong.
