What would be the estimated carb count for the following veggies (1/2 cup)
combined with the following:

cucumber, radishes, green peppers and celery

Thanks!
DW - 29 Jun 2005 02:20 GMT
cucumber (raw 1/2 cup, chopped) 2 carbs <1 fiber
radishes (raw 1/2 cup, sliced) 2 carbs 1 fiber
green pepper (raw 1/2 cup, chopped) 5 carbs 1 fiber
Celery (raw 1/2 cup, sliced) 2 carbs 1 fiber

YMMV,

DW, thanks for your reply again but I think I confused you.  I'm talking
about a mix of those veggies measuring 1/2 cup!  Not 1/2 cup of EACH of
those veggies.  :)  Can you still help?
DW - 29 Jun 2005 02:33 GMT
Assuming an equal amount of each, I get approx 1.75 net carbs

Hope this helps

Since the total carbs of the 4 veggies is 11 and there is a 1/2 cup of
each - if you take the exact same amount of each vegetable and make 1/2
cup - your total logically should be 11/4 (4 1/2 cups) which would equal 2
3/4.

OK - I forgot to subtract the 3-4 grams of fiber - so it would be from 7/4
(1.75) or 8/4 (2) since one of the veggies said <1gram - so if you only
counted 3 fiber and 11 total the carbs would equal 2.

Two cups not 4-1/2.  Four veggies, 1/2 cup each, 4/2 cups= 2 cups.

Yeah.  Some people should redo the math.

I didn't say four and a half - I said 4 half cups which equals 2 cups - so
since it was "4" half cups - you divide by 4 - my math was fine - my logic
failed when I forgot to subtract the fiber which I did in my next message.

Maybe it was your writing that failed, look down at the bottom of the
message between the ******  That reads four and a half cups to me, how about
saying four (or 4) half cups.

I don't even try to measure veggies with cup measures anymore.  Much too
much room (or not ENOUGH room) for variation.  Weighing them is far more
accurate.

I see you got your answer earlier. Here are some links for the next time you
need to find out carb counts.

Are you aware that there is a book that tells what the
Atkins plan actually is?  Doctor Atkins New Diet
Revolution editions 1972, 1993, 1999 or 2002.  You
seriously need to read it.  Read does not mean skim.
>From the front to the point where the recipes start,
read it like a textbook.  From the recipes to the
end skimming is fine.  If you had not read the book,
or at least covered a lot of the web pages, there's
no chance you can do Atkins bying making stuff up
as you go.  Atkins is far from obvious.  It's the
result of decades of effort to figure out how to beat
what's obvious.

All of those editions have a list of low carb veggies
that are 5 per cup minus fiber.  They also have a list
of ultra low carb veggies aka salad veggies that are
2.5 per cup minus fiber.  The ones you list above all
appear in the salad list.  So their total counts are
all 1.3 per half cup minus fiber.  They are high fiber
items so call them around 0.5 if you deduct fiber.
Being as new as you are, you should deduct fiber.
Using total carbs is for people who started before 2003
when fiber deduction was added to the machine.
