I'm in love with walking. It has renewed my
interest in exercise and just feels darned good.
Question - If I walk at a relatively fast pace
every day for about an hour, and still do weights
3 days a week, that shouldn't be a problem for any
reason, should it? The weights are now mostly
concentrated on upper body, about 20 min., and
then 10 min. for lower body.

That should be just fine!

Don't see why not... :-)
I just got back from my morning wolk with my obese dog and I worked up a
good sweat! A fast paced walk that raises your heart rate and gets you
slightly out of breath and an elevated heart rate is just as good IMHO
as any cardio machinery! Especially if half of it is uphill.
And is easier on the joints than running......
Take the dog!

It works for me.
I'll bet that by 4 months from now, regular "Walking" will be history.
You may be different, but I see most people do exercise as a temporary
thing.

Perhaps. But walking affords me time to meditate,
if you will. Less concentration than when doing
weights. My attention span seems to have
improved, and the overall good feeling is greater
than when I first started with weights. If it
does get boring, then I'll simply switch to
another type of exercise. There are tons of them
out there, you know!

Yeah, and you're certainly no exception.

That is true, but most people do dieting as a temporary thing as well.
There are a few people I know that have exercised for years and feel guilty
if they miss a workout. It is definitely a part of their lives. They number
about the same as the number of successful dieters.

Why would you bet that? I understand that you expect people to fail
(and appear to be terrified of the prospect of failing to keep your own
weight under control), but I think you are being mean-spirited and JC-
like to just throw that out there for no apparent reason when someone
happily announces that she's doing something she really likes to do that
is good for her. Can't you lighten up on people until you at least SEE
some sign of cracks in the armor rather than proclaiming doom at the
outset?

I guess I'm not the only one who gets "perturbed" by his "anti-exercise"
propaganda.

I've been a runner since I was 18. Took a break from it for about 2-3
years in college. Had a brief love affair with weight lifting and
bodybuilding, but I got too obsessive about it and quit.
I use excercise primarily to feel good. It's worked for me for years.

That's what I've been doing for just about a year now, with no problems at
all. The only difference is that atm I'm doing a split weightlifting
routine, so lift 6 days a week.
I used to feel guilty, making sure to take an hour off work to walk - until
I figured out how much better I was at solving problems in the afternoon,
when I'd had a chance to think about them for a bit...
