Hi all,
I am involved in a low carb bulletin board :
http://www.lowcarbbulletinboard.com/diet

and I was wondering if anyone has a complete list of the low carb diet
alternatives.

Basically I am interested in creating a list of each of these diets to
create a discussion forum for each and also to continue on creating a matrix
of how any combination of two of these diets compare.   Eventually I would
like to have something that would help one to decide which diet is right for
them.

A low carb diet is a low carb lifestyle.
It's not rocket science. ;-)

"Naming" it does not mean a thing.....

Cheers!

well there are different approaches.

SB and Atkins although basically the same have a different approach to
cutting out carbs.

I would bet all of them work but I am trying to figure out if some are
easier for some people to follow.

WW could be considered Low Carb also

Take Atkins, and then all the rest which somewhat copy and modify it.

There's a relatively new book out called
Living the Low-Carb Lifestyle that has
just the kind of info you're looking for.

You might also mention the survey of successful weight losers, as
conducted by Consumer Reports.

The bulk of the successful weight losers do not follow or read much of
the popular current or "Fad" diets, but instead invent their own.

Then, presumably, they follow the plan that they make or evolve.

Sticking with a sensible plan is one of the great keys to weight loss.

ATKINS BASIC 4 ELEMENTS:

1) Eat Till Satisfied, NOT STUFFED (eat less)
2) Exercise (Atkins called this "non-negotiable")
3) Vitamins/Suppliments
4) RTFM... Read The F....g Manual (or read the darned book)

GREED

In a sesnse, weight loss is made more complicated than need be, because
there are people who are trying to make money or fame from convincing
you that their diet/eating plan is "The Best".

Eating Less, Exercising More, Vitamins/suppliments and a sensible
diet......  Yes, there are some Insulin related major benefits for some
dieters from the Atkins or Low Carb eating plan.

Not all print articles are posted on the web, you know.

Some publishers are still struggling with the old fashioned notion that
they should be able to sell the information they compile and publish.

Depends on where you draw the line how many there are.

Some consider Carbohydrate Addicts Diet and Sugarbusters
to be low carb, some don't.  They share with Atkins and
other low carb plans an interest in keeping the insulin
level low but they go about it differently.

Some treat various paleolithic plans as low carb, some
don't.  Same with isolation plans.

lets say I would be willing to stretch the definition.
I mean if someone could call it low carb then add it to the list.

Or maybe add a weighting system like how low carb is it?
atkins a 10 and WW a 0 scaling factor ...

so it would be popularity *  scaling factor / 5

what would be the top 10 low carb diets?

Hi cc0104007,

Have you ever gone to:

http://forum.lowcarber.org/index.php?

(hope that link works)

and found this site where there are many sections
of the message boards dedicated to all the low-
carb diets? Very active & they even have a War
Zone for the fights. I don't post there, but I do read.

Good luck competing with that site, but I suppose
the internet is one big sucker of a place, so there
might be room for you too.

Top in terms of what?  People who follow them?  Sales of the book?  Length
of existence?  Effectiveness?

We've already listed them.

This question is getting really boring......
