sad to say, but I think I'd better go back to lurking. I'm not up for the BS
of some and I'm being quite intolerant. I don't like that in others so I
need to stop right now.

It seems that for some reason, my life is kind of sickly tragic. so much
death.
A good friend of mine recently left her very abusive husband(verbal for
sure, suspect physical too) and that bastard hung himself in their basement
and his 22ish son found him. I believe that he had intended for my friend to
find him. He invited her over shortly before he did it but she was afraid of
her FIL (big farm) so she didn't go or she would have found him.
I'm going to the wake tonight.

so anyways, I am staying on plan and just going to bow out for awhile.
Whether I'm being driven off or whether I am just doing self-care. I'll just
update stats every week or so.

Time to come clean.  You murdered him to protect your friend and staged a
suicide, right?

(I watch CSI a lot.)

It was an attempt at humor in a particular context.  The OP had just been
speaking ill of the dead.  She speculated about physical abuse of his wife,
but obviously has no evidence.  When the deceased asked his wife to return
and she does not, we are told that he wanted her to find his body out of
cruelty.  Yet, might it have been his grief that she didn't come that was
the last straw?  Are suicidal people filled with hate, or are they depressed
about something?  Lastly, as a viewer of CSI, I don't assume that every
apparent suicide was really a suicide.

As the OP made wild accusations against a dead person, I jokingly made an
accusation against her.  Humor -mixed with a willingness to participate in
Karma.

You really should keep your attempts at humor to yourself because you
aren't even REMOTELY funny and don't seem to comprehend the nuances of
when it is appropriate and when it is NOT.

She can speak for me in this instance.

I thought that it was mildly amusing, more so than the OPs post.

You cannot dictate to others what they should regard as humorous,
something you appear to be attempting to do. Black humour may not appeal
to all but then what does?

I guess that a Monty Python movie would shock you into coma?

You apparently, as you have taken time to respond.

First you would have to know what she's talking about before
> you would know if it's funny or not.

Why?

What was funny had nothing to do with what she said, it had to do with
the response and the reference to CSI.

Same goes for you. She can speak
> for you about what?

About whether the response was humorous.

Cheri it wouldn't hurt to lighten up a little.

The OP expressed a number of opinions about a person and a situation
that has no relevance to me, and I imagine, to many who read it. The
post seemed extremely biased, and although I certainly wouldn't take the
original post (or the response) at face value (without much more
data...) the response was at least as valid as the original post from
the viewpoint of an uninvolved third party. Plus it was a humorous dig
at the bias in the post.

If I was pressed to express empathy for any one person of those
involved, it would be for the guy who saw his only option as suicide.

The op admits that she has no idea if he was physically abusive but
still denigrates him and has empathy only for the woman - who at least
is still living and has a future. It is referred to as speaking ill of
the dead; something that many people do not regard with approval.

One of the last times I saw him he kept telling his wife, my friend, look
how beautiful Lori is! that is how a woman is supposed  to look, not like
you. what an a.s.
She never admitted that he beat her but I saw her weekly and she often had
bruises, a cut lip, other signs. he constantly accused her of cheating,
called her a whore when he was drunk. all kinds of things. she admitted it
to another friend of ours last year and briefly left him. her catholic roots
are deep and she went back to her husband and that other friend wouldn't
talk to her anymore, Infact, she was so disgusted that A went back to J that
K did not have A in her wedding as she had planned. I also was friends with
his first wife back in the 80s. they had 4 kids. she left him because he
beat her and was a verbally abusive alcoholic. Wow! so many people defending
a man they wouldn't even have dinner with if they knew him. unreal, I guess
I didn't know I had to go into such dirty detail or i would have.

An a.s who's life was so lacking that he decided to end it. (Unless of
course Cubit was right and you were involved ...<g>)

I am not defending him Lorelei, I was commenting on Cheri's attempt to
decide what was funny and what was not on behalf of other people. I
still find it sad that someone's life is so negative that they find
suicide their only option, even if that person was someone I would find
objectionable in person.

Without intending offense to you, I never base my opinions regarding
people or situations on the impressions of other people. You are
obviously closer to the guys wife; perhaps you don't see both sides.
That said, I have no time at all for men who abuse women *without
cause*. Some women make men's lives miserable, thinking little of it,
but wave the abuse flag when he retaliates. The only concrete rule for
me is that *physical* abuse of a woman or child cannot never have
justification. A man who does that is cowardly scum.

Cheri, I am not speaking for you, I am speaking about you.

I would not have expected the distinction to be too subtle for you to
understand, but (as you have just so succinctly demonstrated), it
appears that I was wrong.

By the way, when you respond without leaving some of the original post,
many people cannot determine exactly who it is that you are addressing

It may not have been *intended* for me Cheri, but your response
according to your own newsreader, was to my post. Here are the reference

I always leave a part of the quote and the attribution, so I am not sure

I am afraid that if there was a "point to be got", I still haven't got

Whatever, J. David. I know nothing of reference headers, nor do I care.
If I was responding to you, I would have left some of the quoted text,
which makes it easy for everyone to know who is responding to what. I
was illustrating that point, nothing more. Have a good one.

No problem Cheri.

Perhaps it might help if you understood the basics of reference headers.

When you open a post, that post has an id header, even though your
newsreader may not be displaying it. If you choose to respond to that
post, then your newsreader software uses that id header as reference
header to allow other people's newsreaders to list your post against the
one that you are replying to. Not all newsreaders do this in a clear and
unmistakable fashion, some just list in order received or order sent
within a thread. Some, like mine, (and many other people's) show the
thread quite clearly, with each response linked to the post it was
intended for.

In order to respond within a thread and not appear to be responding to
any particular post, you would have to write as though you were making a
new post, and then manually copy the "Re: ....." subject header.

Do you understand that or have I confused you more?

Lorelei, I will give you my sympathies if you want, but as being a
woman getting out of a 3 year abusive relationship myself, I have to
coldly say she is better off.  I wish I had been lucky to have my ex
end it all instead of keeping the abuse going in the form of threats of
taking my daughter away from me.  Just another power play to make

If reading here is causing you even more stress, then that's the way it

In the meantime, try to think of JC in a different light than a personal
