Maybe you type II people can answer this
question.  If someone eats a very high
(150) carb meal and their glucose is 174
two hours later, what does that mean?
It dropped to normal levels at three
hours post prandial.  And no, I'm not
referring to myself.  I have a bet on
the correct answer.

It means they're diabetic.

Thanks everyone for all your answers.  I
sort of won.  I don't think she does
diabetes per se, but has the precursor
and needs to be checked more thoroughly.
Of course, I'm sure she won't, but
there is nothing I can do about that.

She's diabetic.  If she hit 172 at two hours, you can betcherass she was
over 200 at one hour.  200 at any time is diagnostic of diabetes.

That'll be to bad if she doesn't get it checked out by her doctor. Let her
look at this website for starters then:

It does not mean a true diagnosis of diabetes.

BUT it is highly likely.  The person in question should speak with their
doctor and have appropriate tests done.

I would also suggest if the person in question does not currently have
medical insurance, they should get it BEFORE they go to their doctor.
Once a diagnosis of diabetes is made, a pre-existing condition will
likely preclude them from being able to get affordable insurance... or
any insurance at all.

A diagnosis of diabetes is made when any of these occur on two separate
occasions:

A fasting reading over 125.

Any reading over 200.

A two hour reading on a glucose tolerance test of over 200.

A fasting reading of 100 - 125 means "impaired glucose tolerance"... and
is the pathway to diabetes.

I would send them to a doctor for a correct diagnosis.
There is a very good chance they may have diabetes.

It means they need to haul their hind end in to see a doctor for a
diabetes work up after telling him or her what they saw.  An HbA1c will
tell the doctor what their blood glucose level has been doing over the
last few months, and they can take it from there.
