Chromium?

I'm taking a One-A-Day vitamin supplement which is formulated specifically
for Low carb and includes 200mcg of Chromium. Says this is 167% of daily
intake needed.

Doc A mentioned higher levels of Chromium, perhaps 300 to 800 mcg are
needed.
Does anybody take these high levels?

Also, this formula pushes 450mcg of Biotin as the main ingredient to
breakdown fat.

IS this something new?

Well, not totally new, at least not the chromium. I know Atkins
considered chromium to be helpful in regulating blood sugar and
included in his "dieter's vitamin" supplement. I've always been
curious about chromium - I've read a tremendous amount of both pros
and cons over the years.

The biotin being a fat breakdown promoter is new to me. Not that I
keep up on supplements all that much lately.

Hi I'm new to this group, but have been low carbing off and on for a
few years now. I'm getting back on the wagon today, I have 82 pounds to
lose again ugggg.

Anyhoo, the Chromium, I find that taking it helps reduce cravings.
Especially if I take 400 - 500mcg in the evenings when I tend to get
bad cravings.

Good luck!

I'm sorry I just looked at my bottle of Chromium and actually I take
1000mcg in the evenings to stop cravings.

That's pretty much the maximum daily dose that's considered safe.

I become hyperthyroid on as little as 400 mcg per day, with
palpitations.  It definitely spurs muscle and weight loss, though.

What form of Chromium are you taking; picolinate or GTF?

Thanks.

GTF; I steer clear of picolinate.

Why's that, Susan?

A study indicated that it might cause DNA damage.  Why risk it when
other forms don't have that risk?

I also personally found that larger doses of it INCREASED my FBS and A1C
after 60 days...

Will be tossing what I have left on hand and trying the form that you
use.

Ah! OK, thanks. Is there a recommended dose for the GTF form, given that I
don't want to mess with my current thyroxine balance? (and what does GTF
stand for?)

GTF - glucose tolerance factor.

The typical dose is 200mcg per day.  Up to 1000 mcg is considered the
safe limit.  I get hyperthyroid symptoms on 400mcg per day.  I had to
stop taking Cytomel after taking it, and have never needed it since.

Wow! Something to titrate slowly then : )  Do you happen to know if it's
doing anything to your blood glucose levels?

I wonder what the structural difference is between the forms, presumably
that's the reason for the different DNA affects?

No way to know that now.  I low carb, take metformin, alpha lipoic acid...

Dunno.
