Thank you all for your replies on my Splenda posts, I am sorry if I offended
anyone. I have no agenda other than to feel good, and after noticing that
the three out of four people in my family on the LCD had not been feeling
well, I decided to do some research. The common factor was a large
consumption of aspartame and sucralose. When we stopped using these, we felt
better.

All The Best!!

"And"?  Since aspartame is far more likely to cause such
problems has anyone tried going without aspartame and with
sucralose or vice versa?  Then you'd actually know which
caused the issue and which didn't.

I'm all for banning stuff that causes you problems.  I'm not
all for banning stuff randomly until problems go away.  And
so I prefer a systematic process to figure out exactly what is
causing the issue and what isn't.

Who said anything about banning anything? Wasn't the OP just warning
people?

Personal ban.  If X causes a problem like the symptoms
described at the start of the thread, or binges, or a cough
or whatever, then I am all for that person banning that
food from their own diet.  Fail to ban it personally, keep
getting the symptoms.

There isn't anything that everyone needs to ban.  Dr Atkins
may have claimed white flour, white sugar and sometimes
white rice as something that everyone should ban, even
that was a prediction of what most should ban not of what
the process would teach everyone.

I trimmed to the part that said that.  "When we stopped
using these ..."  If they avoid those two AS from now on then
they have banned it from their allowed foods.

Question: when all of you stopped using Splenda and aspartame, did also
make any other dietary changes (i.e. not eat stuff you you used to
sweeten excessively and switch to other foods?)

I have done an isolation system because doing that is a part of the
directions for the Atkins process and I decided to follow the
principles and do more than is strictly in the instructions.  As such,
among the foods allowed for Induction of Atkins at some point I
tried a week without them and then reintroduced them.

Since when I started Atkins aspartame was not yet banned for
those first two weeks, I used aspartame during Induction.  At the
time I don't recall if splenda had come out yet.  It was several
months down the line that I learned that aspartame was a problem
for many and went without for a week.  The result was a big
difference for my wife (weight started dropping, fierce headaches
started) and zero difference for me.  Sure enough, everyone has
their own reactions.

So when splenda came on the market or became noticed by
me I tried it and checked whether it had any effect.  In my case
it didn't.

So splenda *or* aspartame.  One suspect at a time in my opinion.
It's how systematic isolation systems figure out problem foods.

True, but it's not even that easy, especially with things like food
additives, because we don't consume them alone. They are usually part
of another food that we change or cut out or cut back on when we
eliminate the additive. So it can *still* be hard to tell whether the
additive is or is not causing problems.

Aartificial sweeteners  are often consumed as part of a diet soft
drink, which have other ingredients that can cause problems. For
instance, if your wife was drinking one or more servings of Diet Coke
per day, and cut it out, she would probably have withdrawal headaches
from cutting back on caffeine. Those wouldn't have anything to do with
eliminating aspartame.

If consuming artificial sweeteners "alone," added to coffee or tea,
you're still usually getting some extras. Some people are sensitive to
the fillers, such as maltodextrin, used in packaging all but the
liquid versions of the sweeteners.

And if you looked at the link to that anti-Splenda website that PT
provided, you can see the extent of the hysteria and foolishness that
is going on.   The website has a long list of alleged symptoms that
people have posted and attributed to Splenda.   A whole section is
devoted to digestive issues, cramps, diarrehea, etc.   The people were
eating LC ice cream, LC candy, and similar that we all know contain
sugar alcohols that are well known to cause these problems in some
people, especially if you eat too much.   It's right on the labels.
Yet these buffoons are blaming the Splenda!

Don't get me started.

Good points, very good.

I'm diabetic.  If I want to sweeten something, I have to use an
artificial sweetner.

I use Splenda because it's easier to cook with and it doesn't give me a
rash like aspartame does.
