catskills@monmouth.com - 28 Apr 2006 12:53 GMT I don't want to bog people down with this crap, if you want to hear it, let me know.
Cheri - 28 Apr 2006 14:44 GMT Sure, I'll listen. Just mark it OT.

Cheri - 29 Apr 2006 03:22 GMT Maybe you should have too. You would probably make a ton more money than being a teacher, and at the end of the day, you would have actually had to accomplish something. LOL

Cheri - 29 Apr 2006 03:57 GMT OK JC, you are bagging...you put two glass bottles together and they break...you have to be accountable...people will get their money back. You are teaching, you put two idiots together...they mate...people will be paying for that for a long time...Get a real job JC. LOL ;-)

Cheri - 29 Apr 2006 04:38 GMT Once again JC, I had teachers over fifty five years ago, that taught. The only regret I have is that you weren't there to have your little pink butt paddled with the "board of education." Those were good days. Still, the idea of seeing your butt in any circumstance, is more than I can bear, so be well, you dear little man. :-)

Or is it that you've just forgotten through senility?

Now I don't know if I should accept the other position. One of the companies is geared toward more of what I wish to do. The other is more money and same work as where I am. So these are not terrible woes, but decisions I need to think about.

catskills@monmouth.com - 29 Apr 2006 22:29 GMT thanks for the inquiry Cheri, and JC. But my woes are actually 2 better offers than where I am now. I am confused I did not expect to be offered these jobs when I went on the interview over 2 weeks ago. I told them I will decide by Monday. The first position is actually more geared to where I want to be in my life. The second is less money but a NJ State Job. I need to think. Thanks both of you Cheri and JC for your input. Marilyn By the way I did not need to quote anyone here did I??
FOB - 29 Apr 2006 23:05 GMT Take the one that is more suited to what you want to do. Life is too short not to be as happy at work as you possibly can.

Thanks, MaryL
Cheri - 29 Apr 2006 19:13 GMT No problem, I'm sure you're a great teacher too. I have nothing but respect for teachers, and no offense intended to be sure. I was just "messin" with JC a little bit. :-)

I think you should not be so quick to insult since your job I heard was cleaning toilets in a school.

It happened when I was three years old due to severe ear infections as a baby. My hearing in right ear was lost, so please call me stupid but don't call me deaf.

catskills@monmouth.com - 30 Apr 2006 00:56 GMT no only in my one ear, that is a sensitive issue with me. Have complete hearing loss in one ear is bad enough, I dont need jokes about it. Call me fat, stupid , bad grammer what ever you makes you feel good, but I dont want something thats not my fault being stuck to me. My other ear is ok, only lost certain ranges.
JC Der Koenig - 30 Apr 2006 01:18 GMT > no only in my one ear, that is a sensitive issue with me. Have > complete hearing loss in one ear is bad enough, I dont need jokes about > it. Don't put your business in the street and it won't get run over.

How is the truth an insult? Are you really that insecure?

I have a disability and joke with others all the time about my being a "gimp." You'll be a whole lot happier if you can learn to laugh at yourself, and it makes you immune to others' rude comments. Why do you think gay people have started referring to themselves as "queer?" It's trumped the negative connotation that the word used to carry when others use it. Learn a few Helen Keller jokes! :-)
Your hearing loss in one ear does not limit you. Look at Elliott Yamin, currently one of the five finalists in American Idol. He lost his hearing in one ear to an infection when he was a child. And now out of more than 10,000 contestants he's a top finalist in a singing competition!
And for myself, after being paralyzed and hospitalized for nearly four months after a major brain stem stroke eight years ago, told I would never walk again, speak normally or have normal bodily functions, I returned to a normal life because my attitude was that they naysayers were not going to run my life. I applied for more than 40 jobs in my profession as a Hotel General Manager and saw the eyes glaze over when I would hobble into job interview on my 4-point "granny cane." I refused to accept disability or welfare or to concede that I was less valuable than other people because I had limited use of an arm and leg. My sense of humor got me through a lot of tough times, and my attitude of being able to laugh at myself and my situation is what ultimately got my foot back in the door. Eight years later my career has taken off, I have a much better job with a great company with great benefits doing the same work that I was before. I dn't know how religious you are, but even from a secular point of view reading the book of Job might give you a new perspective on the futility feeling sorry for yourself.
You've got to ac-cen-tuate the positive as Jimminy Cricket sang, and just ignore the negative. JC is such a bore that he's just ho-hum to us long-timers here; we either killfile him, don't read his posts or laugh at his lack of social skills. I've learned that posters like the Queen of Cans and Jars are blunt, but honest and give excellent advice. Nothing that any person posting anonymously on an internet forum can possibly affect you or your personal life in any way unless you allow it to. We all have had to learn that lesson, you did too.
Butch up, as the QOCAJ often says. This is meant to be encouraging advice, not to be a put down; I hope you take it as such.

From the few posts of hers I've read it doesn't appear that she's terribly swift on the uptake, so even if she did hear you I'm not sure it'd get through.

Cheri - 30 Apr 2006 13:33 GMT Yes, I don't see anything wrong with calling the deaf, deaf. My daughter is profoundly deaf, and, she's deaf. :-)

My nephew has decided now that he IS coming with us when we come to visit this summer. He and your daughter are going to get along like two peas in a pod! He has the exact same ailment!
p.s. Seriously, he's 13 but has four younger brothers and sisters and loves playing with younger kids. He's going to get along great with your daughter.
The Operator - 01 May 2006 02:39 GMT Yep - it gets worse as they become teenagers and then - when they graduate from high school and hit college - a true mioracle happens - their hearing is completly restored!!! Diane
