I made a big batch of chicken veggie soup the other day. I was somewhat
dismayed, however, to find that after each bite there was a slightly
cool sensation, no matter how hot the soup was. WTH? Eventually I
figured out what had happened. I had used mint extract earlier and must
have gotten a little bit on my hands. I DID rinse my hands after that,
but I suppose extract requires SCRUBBING. Not long after that, I
removed the chicken from the water, stripped the meat from the bones (by
hand -- they were chicken WINGS, so hands-on is the most efficient way),
put it in the fridge, and returned the bones to the water to cook. When
the soup was nearly ready, I re-added the chicken meat. Apparently I
got mint extract on the chicken meat when stripping it from the bones.
The soup tastes just fine AS I'm eating it and I only get the cooling
sensation AFTER I swallow it.
So now I have a savory broth (onions, garlic and all) AND breath
freshener in one -- what a concept! (not a GOOD concept, but a concept
just the same)
