2 part Gin
2 part Canada Dry Diet Tonic Water
2 part Schwepps Club Soda
1 part Lime juice fresh or RealLime brand

Put it all in a big glass and stir and then add lots of ice.
I prefer Tanqueray Gin. The club soda is just to cut the
quinine taste of the tonic water. Otherwise, the tonic
water would be 4 parts. The RealLime brand of lime
juice or at least My local grocer's knock off, advertises
ZERO carbs, so nothing in this drink has carbs. Fresh
lime juice has about 2.8 carb grams per ounce.

Maybe no carbs, but alcohol in any form is the metabolic exception
that throws a monkey wrench into weight loss.  The body will
metabolize and burn any alcohol that you drink before it breaks down
the fat cells and burns them.  Stall city.

Marengo,
I'll have to give it up, if this turns out to be such a finely tuned
formula for success. I intend to keep the carb count under 20g
during the Induction phase (Atkins). I think you are right about
a possible stalling effect. Seems like I read somewhere the body
burns alcohol, then carbs, before resorting to other sources.

I think Marengo's a dry drunk. Everytime somebody posts a story about
enjoying a drink or two...and still loses weight, he comes up with this
caveat.

The fact that Atkins and South Beach say moderate consumption of alcohol is
OK is irrelevant, he knows better.

Summer's coming. Enjoy your G & T.

You sound like a typical alcoholic ... anything to justify a drink.

Atkins does not advocate drinking alcohol during weight loss.  It
stops ketosis cold.  Sure, once weight goal is achieved, an occasional
drink of white liquor or low carb beer is fine.  But no matter how you
spin it, drinking alcohol is not conducive to weight loss.

I don't drink because I'm losing weight, not because I have anything
against drinking.  It would be pretty stupid of me to sabotage my own
weight loss with alcohol.   If you're too weak to give up booze for
weight loss though, hey, do what you have to do ..

In Protein Power, the Eades actually recommend 4 oz. of red wine with
dinner.  It's only 2 grams carb, IIRC, and good for raising HDL.

From the Atkins site

And you still talk the same clap trap about alcohol, always turning it into
an overconsumption issue. It's amazing that you'll find info about alcohol
in his books too, but people like you like to selectively pick and choose.

Alcoholic? You're the one with booze issues.

Thanks! I had not considered the Atkins site as a possible source for
drink mixes. It seems the hooch is taboo with all diet plans. I'll try the
Margarita soon. I typically think they are way too sweet around town
except for Baby Acapulco's. They use Everclear, so I can't remember
what they taste like. I'll have to look into orange oil and the dry vermouth
from the martini.
