HI All,

I just wanted to let you know about an open introduction to low gi
dieting that I have written. It's at www.lowgidieting.com and contains
a general introduction and some explanation of the science behind the
GI approach.

I hope you'll find it useful - I've really become switched on to the
idea that carbohydrate consumption isn't just about quantity but also
quality. Change the type of carbs that you eat and you're sure to see
results.

Cheers,
Tom

I am shocked by this revelation....Dr. Atkins' diet is called (by him)
"Controlled Carbohydrates" and that is the whole basis of his diet---that
the quality of the carbs is most important. You may have heard of him....

Yes - thanks for that...
Incidentally, I've read him thoroughly. The point is that Atkins'
emphasis is not simply on carb quality but primarily on reducing total
carbohydrate consumption.. a different idea i think you''ll agree.
cheers,
Tom

Initially, that is his approach. But, long term, he tailors carb intake to
the individual person's ability to metabolize the carbs without gaining
weight. And, he always stressed high-fiber, low glycemic carbs.

I disagree.  He points out that the vegetables recommended are some of
the most nutritious ones around, and were picked for that reason.

Your statement that he was just "anti-carbohydrate" probably comes from
his early book of the 1970's, not the later "New Diet Revolution".

From the 2002 Edition of 'New Diet Revolution'  page 125  (Chapter 11
"And Away You Go: The Induction Phase"

"SALAD VEGETABLES
You can have two to three cups [er day:
--- a list of 21 vegetables  - omitted ----

These salad vegetables ar a godo source of phytonutrients and provide
a good source of fiber"

Page 126

"OTHER VEGETABLES

You can have one cup per day if salad does not exceed two cups --
these vegetables are slightly higher in carbohydrate content than the
salad vegetables..."

---- a list of 34 vegetables -- omitted -- examples include beet greens,
broccoli, brussels sprouts, collard greens, onion, snow peas ,
scallions, spinach, string beans......

---------------------------------------------

I wonder if you read thesse pages in your thorough reading of Dr. Atkins.

I would say that you might have misintrepreted them if you had read them.

Over-simplifications of Atkins are common, and easy to do. Just believe
what some other "diet author" says about Atkins.

This is America -- You don't actually have to read things that you
criticize.

Cannibalism of short GIs (low GI diet) seems unfair in this time of war.

*******

Try reading about GL.  GI becomes irrelevant.
