This, and alt.support.crohns-colitis had the most google hits on
'Benefiber' and 'Metamucil', so I'm posting this for future readers.
Benefiber (partially hydrolyzed guar gum - 4g dose):
* Sams Warehouse - Benefiber 17oz - $19.88 - ($1.17/oz)
* Walmart - Benefiber 11.3oz - $15.94 - ($1.41/oz)
# Drugstore.com - Benefiber 22.6oz (2 containers) - $40 - ($1.77/oz)
# AllegroMedical.com - Benefiber 28.8oz (4 containers) - $54 -
(1.87/oz)
EZ Fiber (maltodextrin and guar gum - 4g dose):
* Walmart - EZ Fiber 8.5oz - $7.24 ($0.85/oz)
Fiber Sure (inalin - 5.8g dose):
* Walmart - Fiber Sure 11.7oz - $13.24 ($1.13/oz, but to compare use
$1.63/oz because of larger dose)
EZ Fiber appears to be Walmart's Benefiber knock-off, and is 27%
cheaper. The nutrition label of EZ Fiber looks identical, but it
achieves the result using different ingredients.
Sam's had the best price I found for Benefiber in my short bit of
internet and local shopping. The 'buy in bulk' google ad folks had the
worst price.
* Does not include cost to drive to the store, if any
# Includes cost of shipping, if any

The Japanese have used non-psylium sources for years. The best comes
from a yam. This is also made into no calorie, fiber only noodles that
are fantastic. You can read more information about them at
http://www.miraclenoodle.com You can get the powder and either
dissolve it in a glass for 5gm per tsp or use it as a substitute for
flour or corn starch in cooking or you can eat noodles made of them
instead! It is the easiest way to get fiber!!
