Now that I'm a devout follower of Atkins, I'm looking at things differently.
When I went to my brother's house I just had to smirk when I hear they're on
a diet and in the kitchen is a ton of low-fat cakes, sweets, cookies.
Sure enough, I look at the contents and it's all sugar to make up for the
low-fat.

My sister-in-law actually tried Atkins for 5 days a year or two ago. I
looked in her Atkins journal and those days consisted of: carb cookies, carb
gummy bears, etc.

I hope you were able to share your wisdom with her so that she can lose some
weight.  Often, people just need to be kindly informed.

I gave my father the Atkins book and he laughed at me.  He said he would
never do it.  Then, a few months later he said he was on a lowcarb diet and
had lost 30 lbs.  He said his wife was making food from the recipes in the
book.

Go figure!!

For 2 years I said I'd never do it - was totally adamant that I couldn't
give up potatoes and bread, they were my lifeblood, would never be able to
manage without them, etc.  Still, I watched both Blaine and George on TV,
and someone (you out there, BB?) kept telling me about the wonders of
low-carb...and from the first day I tried it I realized it was absolutely
perfectly suited for me.  My first revelation was that it wasn't the
potatoes and rice and bread that I craved, it was the butter that I
slathered on it.  Butter on my veggies satisfied that - and I've never
looked back.
