I highly recommend either of these books:
The Great Cholesterol Con, by Anthony Colpo, 2006:

The Cholesterol Myths, Uffe Ravnskov,2000:
http://www.newtrendspublishing.com/Ravnskov/index.html
Colpo's book is an updated version of Ravnskov's. Ravnskov is a bit more
laid back in the sense that he implies that the people who read studies in
a way that likely should not be read that way are idiots, whereas Colpo
tends to come out and call them idiots.
These are both great exposes into why the "blood cholesterol = heart
disease" and "saturated fat = heart disease" links do not appear to be
supported by substantial (or heck any) evidence. There are also chapters
on the "wonder drugs" of statins.
Colpo's book goes farther than Ravnskov, as Colpo lays out what he thinks
really might cause heart disease. Such items as stress, lack of
vegetable/fruit intake, high sugar intake, lack of exercise, omega 3
intake, etc.
I think both these books should be required reading in medical school, but
the drug companies are too ensconced in medicine to ever let that happen.
