Hi everyone,
While surfing on the web, I read about phaseolamine.
This bean extract is supposed to block the effect of an enzyme that
digests starch.

As it was recommended without a brand name, on a fitness site, to reduce
occasionnaly the effect of a carby meal, I looked out for more
information.

And I found that this Phaseolamine was simply the famous "Carb Blocker".
I think I saw this name many times. But this sounds like such another scam.
I read that the FDA, in the USA, said it couldn't be sold anymore
because it was so unefficient in vivo. So now, this is supposed to be a
new version of phaseolamine that is much more effective.

So I thought this NG was the right place to discover if it worked at
all. I guess many of you tried it. So what did you think?

One thing I was wondering too: If the starch gets through  without being
digested, doesn't it give you the runs ? One good thing to this is that
it would prove that the product work.
Well, enough details.

Thanks for reading.

I doubt that there are a lot of us trying such things, we know better than
to expect magic.

I don't believe in it either. But I have to admit I'm curious.  As I
said, I had to look for it on the web. I found a brand that sells it in
my country (Sucre Intercept). But it is 40euros a 60 pill box. :-(
What I'm saying is that if it is really effective, give us 2 pills for
free, and I'll buy some later.
Such a high price says one thing to me : "Let them pay the high price
for the fisrt box. They will buy it since they need it to see if it
works. By the time they all try it out of cureiosity, we will be rich
and gone".
Pathetic, right?

So I renew my question in anathor way: can you confirm that it doesn't
work :) ?

Btw, If it worked, I would find it a great way to soften the effects of
an off-plan period. That's all. I wouldn't take it every day in order to
eat pasta, you know :-)

When you refer to something as "the famous...." we know you're a spammer.

Now go away!

English is not my first language and I might have used the wrong word. I
meant by "famous" as an ironic word. When I saw "Carb Blocker"  in my
research, I  remembered I had seen so much spam for it (on this NG, I
think).
That's when I sarted to think that it was a scam, you know.

And that's why I asked for advice here. And not for this brand but for
the substance itself "phaseolamine".
I actually would never buy a brand that sends Spam to everyone (and I
never have).

> Now go away!

"Oh, be nice..."  (c)J.Waters feat. in "The Simpsons"
;-)

I've been reading this NG for nearly 4 years, and I post here to (not
often ,indeed, but I still do).
But I admit it gets harder and harder to know what's spam and what's not.

It is basically a scam designed to seperate persons looking for
the easy way out from their money. The price should be a tip
off. They don't plan on you purchasing more than once. There
are enough suckers in the world to keep them in business for
a while. Then they change the name or the scam and do it
again.

As I wroteearlier, I think this is true too.

So we agree on that :)

For the moment, I didn't find anyone that told me it worked.
Tomorrow, I will ask my pharmacist (the hell with shame; I know her and
if she knows for sure it never works, she'll tel *me*).

Thanks for answering.

.> For the moment, I didn't find anyone that told me it worked..

I have a friend who is a nutritionist and she and I had a discussion about
it.  More out of curiosity than anything, I bought a bottle.  Hey, it was on
sale.

When I eat carbs, I have quite a few responses to them (part of the reason
that I don't): breakouts, bloating/gas, logyness, mild headache, overnight
water weight gain, etc.  So I knew that it would be easy to tell if the
things actually worked.

So I took a couple, ate a piece of pizza, and had no reaction to the carbs,
as I normally would have.  None.  My experiment has been repeated about once
a month (as I've stated before, I indulge in a chinese dinner once a month)
with the same result.

This all led me to the conclusion that they work for me.  NOT that I use
them when I eat every day, NOT that I use them as an excuse to eat more
carbs, and NOT that I rely on them to do anything I should be doing
myself...but that, on those occasions when I would eat a carby meal anyway,
they prevent every single one of the above reactions.

Just sharing my experience, not recommending them and don't really care to
get into it with all of those who've tried them and found that they don't
work (or who haven't bothered to try them but "know" they don't work
anyway)...but now you've found someone who's telling you that, for me, they
work :).

Out of indiscretion, would you share your friend point of view too :-) ?

Guess I'm going to wait for it to be on sale too (again 40euros for 60
pills? right)

That's exactly what I would expect from it. As for on of my wondering:
we know what's happening if something is not digested (sugar alcohol,
fiber, etc...). Did you notice any...hum... consequences in that area?

Thank you for sharing with us. For the record, did you use any
particular brand? Anyway, I'm sur I won't find it here in europe.

None.  Years ago I'd tried the chitosan to prevent fat absorption and had
SEVERE consequences...absolutely none with these.  They only work with
starches, not with sugars...but sweets aren't something I care for all that
much anyway...

They're from Natrol.
