Its somewhere around day 10, since i just got a scale 2 days ago, in those 2
days i have not lost anything.

I weighed myself last wednesday at about 4pm, and i was 175.
Thursday morning i was 177, and this morning i am 177.

So i am not loosing anything.
I recall reading that some people will see a difference in their clothing
before a real difference on a scale.
I hope this is the case with me.

I am 5foot 6inch, my waist is 36 inches, and i am 177lbs.

I feel like a fat piece of crap, and i am 4 days away from two weeks, and
feel like i have no progress.

Part of me wants to go get mcdonalds, and part of me wants to stay with it.
Another part of me feels like an idiot for preaching the values of this
"diet" which has caused me no weight loss that i can see to other.

I should have gotten a scale on day one, but i didnt, so i dont know.
Usually i have in the last 2 years weighed in somewhere around 185-190lbs,
but who knows what i was at before i started.

gosh am i stupid.

Stephen,

First of all, you did the right thing with JC.  I killfiled him long aho;
he's a mildly anoying troll that most people here ignore.

As far as your weight loss goes:  Maybe you could post a co uple days'
menues (everything you are eating) for the old-timers here to analyze to see
if they can identify trouble spots or help you kick-start your weight loss.
It's always worth a shot.

Good luck to you.   :)

I tend to be the opposite; I'll show steady weight loss on the scaled but my
clothes size don't seem to go down.  *sigh."  Guess it's because I've got
such a fat head that the weight comes off there first  ;)

Wow, thanks for the reply, the thread is a little old though.
Anyhow. i am now lighter. I went from almost 200lbs to about 171 now, and i
am doing a regular weight routine combined with cardio (running).
Here is a few current pictures of me:

Well worth a shot. They're good at spotting carbs you didn't realize
were there.

I lost about an inch during my first 2.5 MONTHS, without losing ONE
OUNCE according to the scale. I like to think it's because I was
adding muscle bulk. :-)

My own empirical observation is that an inch around the navel
corresponds to around about 6 lbs loss--so if we suppose I lost six
pounds in ten weeks, it isn't too bad. But it was MIGHTY discouraging!

Now I'm over three months in, and the normal weight-loss pattern has
finally asserted itself: a pound or two per week. That was my
experience on my second time with the diet, when I included regular
treadmill work.

Len.

You sound just like this lady I work with. She's constantly expecting a
quick loss, and I am constantly telling her that patience is a virtue. Plus
she doesn't exercise, and I have no idea how she expects to *continue*
losing weight by just *eating* differently.

Why are you beating yourself up when it's only been 2 weeks?

Well, it's up to you whether to stay or to go, but honestly, from what I
see, you're not giving things nearly enough time. Besides, how much exercise
are you getting? How much water are you drinking? If you're not treating
your body properly with proper exercise and hydration, you're setting
yourself up for a big fall.

You ought to quit depending on a scale. They cost too much anyway. Get
yourself a good tape measure and learn how to take your measurements,
because it's the inches that matter.

> gosh am i stupid.

Stupid *is* as stupid *does*.  IMO, you'd only be stupid to quit after such
a short period of time. Sorry to sound so harsh, but I think it's true.

Well, i am doing 75 situps a night.
I also walk everywhere, and take public transit, which adds about 5km a day
to how much i walk.
I know that i am jumping thr gun. i am starting to regret posting this, but
i did it out of frustration.

Because i have a habit of beating myself up and later regretting it.

Understandable. I get frustrated just about daily! :)

The thing is, though, you *have* to know that you're doing okay, despite
what the scale says so far. If you're feeling better about yourself (meaning
more energy, positive feelings, etc), then that is what counts. Perception
is reality.

That's not likely to result in your seeing faster fat loss.

Just focus on maintaining the WOE. Keep up your exercise and consider adding
weight training.

Yes, if anything it will result in a little slower loss, but muscle burns
fat, as they say.
You know what is ironic? just a week ago I said that I wanted to get a
flatter tummy, and wasnt concerned about weight, then today I go and pull
this.
But I am proud as heck that I haven't managed to fall off of induction like
I did when I tried it before about 2 years ago, and that as a result, I am
showing that I have matured, and that I am seeing other good results from
induction (attitude change, feeling better in general, etc).

Don't take this wrong Steven, but doing 75 sit-ups a night isn't going to
build much muscle if any. The first problem here is that in order to build
muscle, two things have to happen. The first is that you have to fatigue the
muscle with some sort of resistance. You are doing this to a small degree,
but sit-ups aren't the best thing for flattening your stomach, crunches are.
The second thing is that your muscles need 24-36 hours to "rebuild" the
damaged fibers from exercise. This is why there is a rest period of a day or
two between workouts for a specific muscle group. Sit-ups mostly work the
flexor muscles and not the abs. I'm not saying don't do sit-ups, but if you
are looking for stomach tone, then you should be doing crunches. Doing 75
reps with no added resistance is not going to build muscle as fast as doing
less reps with some added weight. Also, to build one single pound of muscle
by doing sit-ups will probably take years. Put a 10 pound weight on your
chest and "hug it" while you do your crunches. When you get to the point
where this becomes easy, then add a bit more weight.

If you are interested in a good muscle workout, try www.davedraper.com.  The
guy has a lot of workouts on his site. Some are good for beginners and some
are advanced, but they are well planned workouts. IMO weight training really
is essential for speeding up weight loss, plus you get the euphoric feeling
from training.

A person has to start somewhere. I am just starting to learn about all this
after all heh.
two weeks ago I couldn't do 50 without feeling like garbage :-)
Thanks for the advice, it is appreciated.
I do want to gain muscle and see a real figure for myself in the end. My
father could do it when he was my age, and so I know I am capable of it.

What is the difference between a situp and a crunch?  If I hear something
crunching while I'm doing a situp, I probably need traction (or I need to sweep
the floor :-)

Don't be sorry, change that behavior.   You didn't get fat overnight.  Don't
expect to get thin overnight either.  It takes HARD work.  And if you truly
want to keep it off, I believe some sort of regular exercise routine is
required.  The best would be resistance training, since building muscle will
increase your metabolism.  You won't get huge, so don't even say it.

Make sure you are getting enough of your good fats.  They will help to
diminish the appetite.  Just keep at it.

"she doesn't exercise, and I have no idea how she expects to *continue*

Exercise has very, very little to do with losing weight.  Not unless you
spend all day digging ditches.  Atkins says you do not have to exercise
to lose weight.  The "exercise is necessary to lose weight" came from
the low-fat movement where people following low-fat plans did not lose
or even gained weight while following them.  It was the low-fat
establishment's way of putting the ball (or responsibility) back in the
person's lap.  It's *your* fault if so-and-so does/doesn't happen, etc.

You need to exercise so that you are not flabby after you lose weight.
There are an endless number of reasons why it is good to have good
muscle tone and strength.

The only advise I have is LOSE THE SCALE! Weight fluctuates on a daily
basis, the scale will make you nuts. Put the scale in a closet and write
down a day about a month from now to weigh yourself and then wait until that
day. I started this WOE on March 1 2002 weighing at least 400 pounds, (I
know it was at least that much because I was in the hospital and the scale
there only went to 400 and I buried the needle) I only weigh myself when I
am at the doctor's office and every time I weigh less. As of about 5 weeks
ago I am 270 lbs now and I still don't worry about it on a daily basis. For
me a scale at home is my enemy, it would tell me how slowly this weigh loss
is happening, but when I weigh myself every 6 or 8 weeks it becomes my
friend. :c)
Stay with it, It gets easier as time goes on.
