Yes, you are correct they do ineed need to wake up. The thing is for
the masses, things will probably get much worse before they get better.
I have long held the belief that there is something wrong with the mass
marketed food supply in the western-ized world. While I do know that
it isn't the only problem as lifestyle and personal choices are
significant factors, I believe that all of the additives, chemicals,
hormones, etc do have a negative impact. I recall you saying something
about how peanut butter puts you in binge mode (it does me too), except
the natural varieties (me too again). I think that this is one example
of this. Based on experience I don't think it is necessarilly a case
of the extra (relatively small amount of) sugar in peanut butter as
other items, even with sugar in them, don't have this effect.
I believe that someone here once suggested that if I don't like it
(meaning the food supply), then I should vote with my dollars and
choose different products. To that end, my wife and I started shopping
at Whole Foods about two months ago and it has made a difference in how
we feel and in our goal to loose weight. Personally, I have followed
an LC regime for quite some time, not always as strictly as I should,
and there have been times when we have gotten away from it for a while.
Since changing the source and in turn the quality of our food supply,
we have found that we don't even need to be as strict in our carb
control. What we have done though, is all but eliminate the additives,
wheat, and corn related products - all staples of the processed food
revolution. We have also both found that our weight does not fluctuate
like it used to, even when remaining stricly LC. Nor does it tend to
spike as significantly if we do eat something high(er) in carbs. I
understand that there is a large degree of YMMV and what works for one
won't work for all. I also think I have a better understanding of why
staying at very low carb levels isn't recommend either, thanks to some
of the regulars here, like Bob, Doug, and Roger.
I gotta tell you though, the idea of getting a whole 75 cents off just
makes me want to run out and buy as much of that processed sh.t as I
can and then pig out like there is no tomorrow. Especially since our
grocery bill has gone up significantly since changing stores. That 75c
savings is just so great.

huh very interesting, yes I never really binged on the natural pb!!!
Never thought of it that way. Now I have been off all pb for about 3
weeks and don't miss it yet. But I will eventually buy it again but
only the natural. I enjoy your posts a lot. Marilyn
