In this months Readers Digest, there are a few articles on obesity and
diabetes, with plenty of side boxes on how to prevent and deal with it.
Of course this has been an ongoing favorite topic of theirs for a few
years now, but I have noticed a slow change in their rhetoric.  As most
of the verbiage probably comes from medical (wanna be) professionals I
interpret the change as meaning that atittutudes and thinking towards
diabetes is changing.

It used to be that the articles would outright state that diabetes was
caused by being overweight and a diet that was too high in fat and in
some instances outright stating that eating fat caused diabetes.  Now,
the articles are more along the lines of infering that there appears to
be a link between obesity and diabetes and recommend that people
excersize more and but also eliminate highly refined high carbohydrate
items from their diets and replace them with better choices such as
green vegetables.  Of course the articles still advocate that the best
way to loose weight is to cut fat from the diet because it has more
calories per gram than protein and carbohydrates.  At least the
articles appear to be showing some progress towards enlightenment.
