Have you seen the new tomato prices?

Yikes!  about 3 days ago, I bought some Roma tomatoes for $1.24 a pound.
Yesterday at Wal-Mart, they were $2.68 a pound. You could have knocked me
over with a feather! (my jaw was already on the floor)

I came home and googled tomato prices. It seems there is a shortage of
tomatoes from the hot/dry summer, and we're just now feeling the pinch.

Oh, so that is what is going on. Tomato prices got lowish for a couple weeks
this summer, and then zoomed up again here in DE. They have seemed high ever
since, so I have not been buying them.

I can get imported strawberries for the same price... or lower... than
mediocre tomatoes! I do like a couple slices of tomato with my breakfast
eggs... sometimes with a few drops of balsamic vinegar. Guess I'll have to
get over the sticker shock.

The grocery store had a sign up about this the other day.  I just
looked at it and tossed it up another line of bs and an attempt to rip
off the customer.

It's not "BS" or an attempt to rip off anybody. Read up on the hot/dry
summer and you'll find out that a lot of the tomato farmers are hurting.
