Ok, ok, I know alcoholic drinks are never really low carb, but......I
enjoy a good drink once in a while, but most mixed drinks are just
loaded to the hilt with massive amounts of carbs.

I've found a couple of drinks that are pretty darned good and
*relatively* low in carbs. Low enough to enjoy a good blowout once in
a while. Here they are:

-------

Daquiri

Lots of ice
2 oz White Rum
1 oz Daquiri mix
Top up with Diet 7up or Diet Sprite

Daquiri Mix
3 parts lime juice, fresh squeezed of course
1 part simple sugar syrup

Simple Sugar Syrup
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Bring to boil to disolve sugar then cool

(As you can see there is only 1/4 ounce of sugar syrup in one Daquiri)

----------

Bulldog Highball

ice
2 oz Gin
juice of 1/2 orange, approx. 2 oz, fresh squeezed of course
Top up with diet Ginger Ale or Canada Dry Ginger Ale (about 1/3 the
carbs as most other ginger ales)

-------

Anybody else with *relatively* low carb drink recipes?

Why wouldn't you use Splenda instead of sugar?

I've never tried splenda in a drink. I've tried splenda a couple of
times in food recipes and was not impressed by the taste. Would it
disolve into a water syrup like sugar does?

And 1/4 oz of sugar syrup in a drink is way less than what is normally
in a drink. Seemed almost acceptable to me, as much as I hate to
consume refined sugar.

Yes, it dissolves fine or you could buy it already dissolved.
www.sweetzfree.com  or FiberFit at
http://www.netrition.com/nutragenics_fiberfit_page.html  Tastes fine in tea.

Just found a LC drink recipe webpage. They say you can make sugar
syrup with splenda.

1 part splenda
1 part water

bring to boil until splenda is dissolved. chill.

Just my usual, Gin and tonic with ice and lemon!

Scotch, straight up or with a bit of water. Sadly, this still has too many
calories for me.

'Fraid I am not a big fan of Scotch, regardless of how it is served or
how long it sat in a barrel or how much its been filtered in peat.

I like scotch and soda, manhattan made with just a little sweet
vermouth, gin and diet tonic, and Mich Ultra Beer  And a bloody mary
isn't very high in carbs either.

Oh, and I forgot, an occasional Martini is good too, usually a dirty
one.   And as an after dinner drink, on occasion I'll have a cognac.
Another new find that's a super sipping drink:  Zaya Rum.   It's the
best rum I've ever tasted, dark and super smooth  In fact, I don't
really drink rum, except occasionally this one, with a nice Cuban
cigar.    It's hard to find and expensive, made in some Guatemala
insane asylum, I think.

I stick with vodka on the rocks if I'm out drinking.  Zero carbs, so
no messing around with counting grams or worrying about whether I can
afford to have one more.  Who wants to keep track of numbers when
you're drinking?  (Not that I've been even tipsy in a long time, but
you never know....)

Is there any such thing as a low-carb amaretto?  I used to love
amaretto sours, and I'm sure you can get diet sour mix, but I'd guess
the liqueur is pretty sugary in itself.

For the Yuletide I've been known to make egg nog with
half-n-half/light-cream, egg, vanilla extract and either
brandy or rum.  Heavy enough that watering it down
does work.

Every so often I'll have some of the zero carb beer
substitute that comes in concentrated form.  Just add
water to reconsistute.  I like bourbon for this rather
than scotch.  Around once a week I'd rather spend my
carbs on a really nice beer than settle for whiskey.

Vodka and diet tonic. Zero carbs. And not all that many calories, as
well.

This might actually be gross, but I really like it. In the summer I like
to mix the cheap Burnett's Mango vodka with diet tonic water.  It's
almost like soda pop.

I guess I should have mentioned that I prefer to minimize the amount
of sugar and non-caloric sweetners as much as possible.

Diet colas contain some pretty nasty chemicals that I try to avoid as
much as possible. In fact I would rather use small amounts of sugar
than anything that contains aspartame.
