I couldn't find anything worth commenting on, so I'm making a post to throw
in my Robochallenge stats.

I'm still using Fucothin.

My dog's vet told me to make him some rice. So, I made rice for the first
time in four years.  The dog gave it two sniffs and went back to bed.

I found a new source of gray market liquid sucralose.  It comes in a glass
bottle with an eyedropper.  It seems to be less concentrated than
sweetzfree.  That makes 3 known sources.

A friend sent me an old photo from an Asian restaurant:

Why?

My dog had diarrhea for several days.  The rice was supposed to make nice
poops.

Vets are paid in food now?  Kewl!

Okay -- seriously --

Is it for digestive troubles?

We had a dog we had to do that for -- rice and ground lamb (boiled).
The smell was horrid -- but he ate it.  Mix the rice with his dog
food?

Mixing with the other dogfood might have worked, but the vet said to not
even add oil to the rice.

(The vet is a woman, so I didn't see the ambiguity in my post. hehehe)

I see now, since you mentioned he had diarrhea.  But I can also
understand him not wanting to eat "plain" rice -- yuck!  LOL!  Hope
he's okay now.

(Then thank goodness I did -- was much more fun that way. <g>)

try frying up some LEAN ground beef and then washing
it...........................get all the fat off that is possible.
THEN add the rice.

that works for dogs with diarrhea.

Why would any of these things cure diarrhea?  Won't it just pass given time?

Pretty much everything a dog eats, will pass given time.

Starchy foods are binding.  Either fat or fiber foods are laxative.
So Rosie's suggestion made a lot of sense to add burger to encourage
the dog to eat the rice while limiting the fat as he doesn't need
anything laxative right now.

Diarrhea can be life-threatening due to electrolyte loss; it's one of
the most common causes of death in infants worldwide.

I don't know if it's as critical in dogs, but even if not, living with
an incontinent dog isn't exactly something one would be patient about.

that it should be polished white rice, not whole grain, to limit the
fiber.

I don't know if it's as critical in dogs, but even if not, a dog left
home while you're at work isn't going to be able to let himself out if
his need becomes critical.  I doubt most people would want to wait it
out.

oh, no.  I had it once as a kid and lost a bunch of weight.

Makes sense.  Dog poop in everywhere in/around Dave's house wouldn't be
good! :)

When we got our puppy a few years back she came to use with the
terrible trots. So much so it became bloody. She had been eating pupy
food in Seattle. The man who brought her and her brother over here for
his sister to adopt out, gave them different food than he gave them,
then I came along and like a dummy forgot to ask what she was eating.
The poor pup got three different kinds of food without being able to
"climatize" to the food. The vet had me give her plain cooked rice and
a bowl  of water available at all time for 3 days and nothing else.
Then she told me to  introduce the dry dog food into the rice then
slowly withdraw the rice from her diet. It cured her. She now eats a
wheat and corn free dog food. They say corn especially makes for a fat
dog. Cant have anything fat in my house including the dog BAAAHH!!!
LOL
