By comparison, I get 64-oz Hoods Countdown 2% for $3.49 or less on sale OR 64-oz Trader Joes Organic Unsweetened Soy milk for $2.99.
I'd also like to see some of the "cup-for-cup" recipes they claim works. Hoods acts like milk and can be used to make SF pudding. Also smooth in coffee, with little residue.
Soy milks WON'T work in pudding, but do appear to make fluffier omelets. Might taste OK in Coffee, and be foaming as the blurb says, but I find, referring to TJ's OUSmilk, that leaves a residue on the coffee-cup that has to be [practically] chiseled out .

OMG - never thought of that. SF pudding is my weakness but if i made it with something like Hoods does that greatly reduce the carbiness? I don't use milk for anything else so I am not familiar with it so much.

This is just off the top of my head because I'm too lazy to go look in the fridge or Hoods web site, but I think it's 3gms per 80-oz serving. 2-cups to make SF pudding (instant), which in turn is 1/2-cup (4-oz) per serving, so that's pretty low.

According to the box I've got here, it looks like the milk pretty much doubles the carbs. The nutrition label doesn't show totals with milk, but it says it has 6g (or 2% RDA) as packaged, and 4% RDA with skim milk. So a serving would have somewhere around 12g; kinda high for me, since one serving of pudding isn't that much.
I picked this up so I could try making it with cream and water, which should bring the carb count down to 8-9. Still kind of high, but should be okay for special occasions.

Other than Cream, any milk, Skim or otherwise, has about 11g carbs per 8-oz serving. Hoods only has 3g.
I'm looking at small box of Jell-o Sugar Free/fat Free Instant Chocolate pudding (making nanner drool)...
[Skim] Milk = 8 + 22/4 = 13.5. Yeah, that is high, even if they are not all sugar carbs.
Hoods = 8 + 6/4 = 9.5 per serving. Much better, depending on your POV.

I kept buying and making more!!! so much for not keeping tempting stuff inteh house!)

Basically, a couple scoops of unflavored, unsweetened protein powder, 1/4 package of pudding, 12 oz or more of cold water, a couple ice cubes, and about an ounce of cream, whirred in a blender.
It comes out solid like pudding, but is filling like a protein shake normally is. So... it's an actual meal for the carbs in a 1/4 packet of the pudding mix.
Metaphysician - 30 Jun 2007 11:36 GMT I've found it useful making an LC version of sweet Lassi, the Indian yogurt-based drink. 4 oz. of Almond Breeze, 4 oz. plain whole-milk yogurt, a few drops of Sweetzfree (Splenda), a sprinkle of salt, some crushed or shaved ice, and... voila! I usually add some green cardomom and a touch of cumin. You could also add cinnamon, a sprinkle of black pepper, rosewater or vanilla, the variations are endless. Not traditional, but tastes great and is good for your digestive tract.
Only 3 grams of carb, 95 calories.

Thanks for that info...I might try one carton to see how it is...as another poster said, it's pricey and I like Hoods and can get it down the street. (I'm not a soy-milk fan).
Metaphysician - 01 Jul 2007 21:20 GMT For most other uses, like with my daily half-cup of All Bran-Extra Fiber, I use Hoods, too.

(I'm not a soy-milk fan). Roger - I saw Almond Breeze at Trader Joe's for $1.99/box. SAME price I quoted for TJ's Organic Soy (32-oz). They had Chocolate and Unsweetened Vanilla.
This is in Portland, OR.

There's a TJ's just three teeny, tiny blocks away from my home. And they carry the Almond Breeze. I saw it with my own two baby-gray eyes. For only $1.99. Three blocks away. Only three bitty blocks away.
Makes you wanna come out and visit, doesn't it?

I was delayed in LA for about 6 hours about a month ago (June 8th), en route to Hawaii.
Frank {remember him - he lives out there now} came help us kill some time. Man, was it cool out there.

This is the unsweetened vanilla and the unsweetened original. I've sweetened it with Splenda & Stevia the later being a little bitter though. It' creamy more so than whole milk. Nutty tasting in a pleasant way. I got some @ Kroger, 1qt for $2.39 marked down to $1.20. I liked both with the advantage going to vanilla. Haven't cooked with it yet prob. be good in chocolate(sp?)
