IMHO, five carbs is way too low, even for someone with diabetes.  If
this is the only reason why you're low carbing, you should (gradually)
find out the MOST carbs you can have WITHOUT a problem-sized insulin
spike.  That's going to be a magic number that's different for
everyone but once you find it, it will make it a lot easier for you to
find foods to eat.

Eventually you'll learn which foods have sufficient proteins, fats,
and fibers to slow down the digestion of the carbs you eat, which
reduces the insulin problems diabetics have.  Find a balance that
works for you, don't try to be extreme if it isn't called for.

If you have an Atkins book, read the seconds on ongoing weight loss,
maintenance, and the CCLL and CCLM numbers.

Unless the "prescription" was for 5 carb exchanges, which would be 75
grams of carb.

That would be much more sensible, but if so, the OP needs to be more
clear, esp on this forum where a "carb" is a gram of carbohydrate.  Of
such misunderstandings are major problems born.

Either way, there's no way to know if it's too low or too high cause
diabetes is not a one-size-fits-all type of deal; you have to test your
bg to know if you're overeating carbs or if you can tolerate a bit more.

If the OP's "struggles" with low-carb have to do with cheating, I'd
suggest doing a week or two of induction to break the overall carb
addiction.

Then add carbs back in gradually, mostly from non-starchy veggies and
low-sugar fruits, until you find the ideal carb level.

Weight loss in only one variable; diabetics must eat low enough carb to
manage bg also: http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm

Wellness 101

Hi, my name is Willie Faison and I'm sending this to you because I
care about whats happening to us and our families. I'm doing this to
inform you and to help you if you're looking for help in weight-loss
or well-being.

As Americans we enjoy one of the most luxurious lifestyles on earth
and it's killing us. Why, because our food is plentiful, our work is
automated and our leisure is effortless.  This lifestyle has caused
many Americans to become overweight.  We're fat not only because we
eat a lot, but also we eat the wrong things.  Adult women are now
eating 335 more calories per day then they did in 1971.  And adult men
have increased their daily intake by 168 calories.  We each ate 1,775
pounds of food in 2000, up from 1,497 pounds in 1990.
In America we've increased our intake of carbohydrates.  Sugars and
starches have become the staples of the American diet.  The food
pyramid guidelines told Americans to avoid fat and eat grains, but the
grains we are eating are flour-based items such as; pasta tortillas
and hamburger buns, which have little or no nutritional value at all.
As a result we're loaded up on pasta and bread, causing the low fat
message to backfire.  Currently we're eating more vegetables as we
follow the USDA's food guide pyramid issued in 1992 but there are
serious flaws in it because some vegetables listed like iceberg
lettuce could have been substituted for healthier choices with much
higher nutritional values like romaine, spinach.

You should be aware that high-fat-carbohydrate meals raise your
cholesterol levels and send your blood sugar soaring!  Which puts you
at greater risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. To make
matters worse nutritionists are explaining the dangers of inflammation
of the blood vessels, which cause soft tissue damage to your joints!

Our body mass index (BMI) is a measurement of body weight relative to
height.  A person with a BMI OF 30 or more is considered obese - and
at a higher risk of disease, such as diabetes, stroke, osteoarthritis,
heart disease and other forms of serious cancer.  Obesity-related
diseases cost the United States more than 100 billion dollars
annually.  In 2005, being overweight is predicted to surpass smoking
as the leading cause of preventable death in the country.

THAT'S REASON ENOUGH TO PROTECT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY FROM THE
PITFALLS OF OBESITY!

In the food pyramid iceberg lettuce is under a diffeent classification than
romain lettuce and spinach. The recommendation is that you eat.

1 serving of dark green vegetables
spinach and romaine
1 serving of orange vegetables
1 serving of dry beans and peas
2 servings of starchy vegetables
2 servingsof other vegetables
iceberg lettuce

each day

I can't see what possible benefit there'd be to eating iceberg lettuce
ever.  Blech.

Not too fond of the starchy veggies either; for the most part, they're
very much tasteless, boring foods with little nutrition for the calories.

And I'd rather eat fresh beans and peas than the dried versions.

I think it's better advice to eat 10-12 servings of all sorts of
veggies, of as many colors as possible, with deeper colors being better
than lighter colors.

Helllo,

I have just started my diet, and restricted my food to:

-egg whites, fried, with chicken spice
-low fat, low carb fresh chease 1pound=410kcal with chicken spice.
-plenty of water

once a week I have some food like vegetables of fruits
I have lost 8 pounds in 23days

You should find pro advice. And also get a second opinion.
Every person is different, so get an expert opinion.
Roger Zoul - 24 Oct 2007 18:54 GMT
Bastardo,

Why don't you restrict your food to:

-

That should speed up your loss! Good luck.

Maybe, but it tastes so good, and I lost weight without working out.
(2,7% of body weight in 23 days)
A better spice is kebab spice, which contains garlic powder with pepper.
Garlic is an antioxidans, and pepper is speeding up metabolism.

Also, both taste fantastic.

I usualy buy a 500g Meggle fresh diet cow cheese, eat a hole inside, put
kebab spice, pour milk over that and than mix.
When milk is mixed with cheese, apsorption is slower so you don´t feel
hungry at all.
And if I do feel hungry, I take a low fat yoghurt 0,05%milk fat
(aprox.50%protein 50%carbs)
I didn´t take any supplements except for magnesium 300mg.
Before doing some heavy activities I usualy drink 1dl of juice (50kcal) and
every half hour another dl. So far so good.

Mister Bastardo:

I must say that this is the strangest diet I have ever heard of. What
do you call it, the cheesehole diet?

However, if it's working for you, and you're a happy Bastardo, I spose
that's cool.

It is a modified Atkins. I don´t eat meat, but I do eat over 50% of
proteins, and also I try to keep the calories low. I now have the "protein
powder". I didn´t know this can be so tasty. Loseing weight without training
is realy strange, but it works. And I am not loseing muscles either(high
protein diet).

You're right in it being a modified Atkins. Losing weight by eating
very few calories while not exercising will not help you in the long
run. I hope that it is not what you plan to do.

Well, it's a modified SOMETHING...bears little resemblence to Atkins
though - the REAL Atkins plan, not the one most people assume they know.

I plan to exercise when I lose enough weight. After that my diet will change
and will include more proteins (2g per kg), more complex carbs like Popeye´s
favorite food, oats, ... and also flaxseed oil and olive oil. My favorite
activities are:
swimming
mountain biking
karate training (I can break a 4cm*4cm*60cm oak wood with my hammer punch,
and I like that)

I think that swimming makes you hungry so if you eat something like protein
powder with milk, metabolism will be faster and food will integrate
gradually. Mixing various proteins will make them slower to integrate.

Why Do People Diet?
People diet for many reasons. Some are at an unhealthy weight and need
to pay closer attention to their eating and exercise habits. Some play
sports and want to be in top physical condition. Others may think they
would look and feel better if they lost a few pounds.

Are you aware that there's a book titled "Doctor Atkins New Diet
Revolution" that gives directions for how to do Atkins?  What you
described is so far from the directions that caling it modified Atkins
is nonsense.  You're doing fine on your own, so call it that.  A plan
you designed for yourself that has no basis in Atkins.

What does that have to do with calling what you're doing modified
Atkins?   Your diet is so radical, it's not a modifed verison of any
diet that I've seen.   If it works, you want to keep doing it, and
aren't worried about the lack of nutrients that you'd get from sources
like vegetables, nuts, olives, etc.  fine.   But please don't try to
associate it with Atkins.

Well if it works I can write a book about it, but everyone hasn`t got the
iron will to do something like this. I know a girl that lost 40 pounds with
pure dedication. She first got a job at a bakery - two shifts. After that
she went for 40km per day bike rides (2x20km). She had huge breasts before,
bad sadly she lost half of them during her weight loss. I am still sorry I
haven`t had sex with her while she had those huge ones. I have never seen
that size naturals on a girl that is not so fat (she was around 130 pounds
before the weight loss effort) After that she was not looking good at all.
All muscles, smaller breasts,...

That;s ok, she probably wouldn't be too impressed with your tiny penis
anyway!

ROTFL
It is not tiny at all and she was not so fat before the diet. She wanted to
sleep with me while she lived together with another guy. So my size is ok.

I think you need to get back to your cheesehole.
