One of the reasons I began LC was my weight was most likely a major factor
in possible kindey problems, I.e., large amounts of protein in my urine.
Has anyone had this problem and was able to overcome with LC? I had a LVN
tell me today that the higher protein in LC could/would cause continued
problems with kidney/protein functions.
Thanks -
Don

I'll let others post any scientific links, but I think you'll find that
this "bad for kidneys" idea is about as credible as Obama being a Muslim.

Yes, there's a woman who used to post here a lot who had her kidney problems
cured by LC. Aramanth Dawe, from Australia, her story is here

I'd had undiagnosed diabetes for about a decade with protein in my
urine. Low carb completely reversed it, and my kidney function is
perfect, I barely have any microalbuminuria, either.
Protein doesn't damage kidneys, glucose does, that's why kidney failure
is so high in diabetics.

There are certain statements that demonstrate the speaker
is utterly unqualified in nutrition to the point they can't be
expected to tell a carrot from a donut.
At the top of this list is confusing dietary ketonuria with
ketoacidosis.
The next on the list is claims that low carbing is bad for the
kidneys. In the 1970s the AMA attacked Dr A for publishing
his low carb book using this claim. His defense was simple -
Show even one case of anyone without kidney damage who
followed his directions and ended up with kidney damage
that could be traced to following his directions. Decades
later, he died still waiting for that first case. When it comes
to low carbing causing kidney damage, Dr Atkins is in
heaven laughing at the idiocy.
That particular LVN may be good at assorted medical stuff,
but now you know she doesn't have any clue at all about any
topic nutritional. If she says daytime is low carb, look it up
in a database.
