I've always found these to be kind of disgusting, except Atkins shake
mix years ago, but that one made me cough and feel ill.

Anyhoo, I'm scheduled for sinus surgery in a few weeks and will have to
be on liquids and then soft stuff at first, and I'm sure all they'll
have in the hospital is juice and low fat milk, pudding, etc.  Tom will
hang on to whatever I decide to drink but I need reccos before I start
buying samples to make a decision.  Unfortunately, all the reviews at
netrition.com seem to be nothing but glowing and I suspect editing out
of contrary opinions.  I've always avoided meal replacement products, so
I'm without a clue, but I don't expect to feel up to mixing my own.

Any suggestions for good tasting ready to drink low carb protein shakes?

Thanks,

Susan

Hello Susan,

I just happened across your post and believe I have a good solution
for you to consider, primarily because there is no-risk to you as the
company I recommend has a total 100% customer satisfaction guarantee,
or your money back.  And you won't necessarily need to spend your own
money to send the product(s) back if you're not satisfied in any way.

The products are called 'Cinch' and are from Shaklee.  I believe they
are excellent tasting, but only you will be the judge.

I use 'web conferencing' in my internet business, so I actually have
two 'presentations' about the products, which are primarily designed
for safe and effective weight loss.  But I enjoy the shakes everyday
as they are healthy (soy protein with leucine!), have full vitamins &
minerals (true meal replacements) and are great tasting as I
mentioned.  You can also download PDFs too.

Best wishes for your health!

Troll!  19 grams net carb/serving, not low carb.  Just happened on her post,
indeed, you Google for such posts every day so you can spam the groups they
are in.

The few I've made that were decent did add up to mixing my own
unfortunately.  Get egg or whey or soy protein isolate, add a dash
of vanilla tincture, some heavy cream, some ice, blend into a
slushy.  Without a blender as long as there's crushed ice available
they could be made in a bar tender shaker or tupperware-like
plastic shaker.  With a blender adding a little walnut oil in place
of some of the cream controls the protein-to-fat ratio but I don't
think that would be an option with only a shaker and crushed ice.

They would get boring fast but in a hospital bed that would be a
given anyways.

There's the trade-off - Which shake mixes if any have hidden carbs
and what will be the insulin release result from the excess protein
of eating protein shakes?  I don't think most brands of low carb
shakes have hidden carb-alikes so reading the ingredients and
doing the calorie arithmatic should easily confirm which do and
which don't.  Starting with one of the types of protein isolate gives
you control over that.

At this point I wonder if the convience of a premixed brand might
out weigh flavor issues for the same reason being in a hospital
bed out weighs texture issues of crushed ice versus blended.

I know how to make great homemade shakes, Doug, I've decided I need
something packaged and convenient for Tom to bring to the hospital for
me, and for my first day home.

Thanks.

Hi Susan,
I really like EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control shakes and so does my husband (he
is very picky). They are available in chocolate, vanilla or stawberry and
have only 110 calories, 2 grams carbs & 1 gram fiber. I buy these at Walmart
for $4.95 for 4. Good luck with your surgery.
Regards,
Cindy

Thanks for your suggestion. So far, the two brands mentioned to me the
most, EAS and Pure Protein (Ultra pure?) are the ones I've also read the
best reviews for.

Susan, I have used Pro Performance from GNC, it has 5 grams of carbs per
serving. They also have other protein shakes. Walmart also has one.

Unjury is a popular protein shake, it has 4 grams of carbs per serving.

There is no shortage of protein soups, hot cocoa, puddings, etc.

Best of luck on your surgery!  Please let us know how you are doing as
soon as you feel up to it.

Thanks for the suggestions; I'll be back to tell the gory tale just as
soon as I can be.
