(unless you have some unusual lifestyle).
I was losing weight on a 1900 calorie diet and I am a man who exercised a lot.
Also, dressings and mayos contains a lot of sugar. You just do not notice it due to added vinegar.

Judy - 12 Dec 2003 11:40 GMT I was just having a big time problem where I wasn't losing any weight. I cut out completely all nuts and the LC candies. I'm very pleased (knock on wood) that I'm losing pounds again! I have been exercising all along.
Try eliminating nuts for a few days and see what happens! It's way too easy to go overboard munching them!!

That is more exercise that many people who "exercise a lot" get during every single day.

I have a 2.5 year old... and playing with him is not nearly as calorie consuming as, say, walking. And then there is a lot of sedentary things you do with kids, such as feeding them, putting them to bed etc.

How about carrying them up and down stairs, running after them on playgrounds and in parks, lifting them in and out of the car, the tub, all while also hefting groceries, toys, etc...

I do all these things you mentioned -- except for hefting groceries on playgrounds -- and none is more calorie consuming than mere walking.
If you consider childcare to be a form of exercise, do not be surprised if that "exercise" does not help with weightloss.

Child Care - play, walk/run, moderate 245 calories in 1 hr
Walking - 3.5 mph 233 calories in 1 hr Walking - 3 mph 202 calories in 1 hr

I do not believe those numbers apply to playing with toddlers. Maybe with older kids (basketball, etc).

You might be surprised in a few more. 2 If you're not excercizing, you may have to adjust your calories downward a little. 3 No nuts on induction. 4 how much salt are you eating?

I don't do Atkins, so I don't know what he recommends, but I would try to rein it back a bit, to less than 2000 if you can or perhaps even fewer. I weigh about the same as you and I try to keep mine below 1800. I am finding this tolerable, if difficult, but I suspect it will get easier as time goes on. (I do not expect anything about sustained, permanent weight loss to be easy.) At least, try cutting the calories back for a week or so and see what happens to the numbers.
carla new to low carb 237/228/165?

I weigh about the Yeah, but if the OP is doing Atkins, you really aren't supposed to restrict calories during induction. But, of course, you're also not supposed to eat nuts.

I sometimes feel like a broken record on this, but the other possibility is that the OP is simply retaining water due to hormonal fluctuations and once she's in a different part of her cycle, she'll have a significant drop.

Strictly counting carbs <20 net > carbs [quoted text clipped - 7 lines] >> typically have about 2200 calories per day. 75% from fat, 22% protein and >> 3% carb. How strictly are you measuring? A little extra mayo, ranch, cheese, and butter could push you over the 10-times-weight general calorie guidelines, at which most people can lose.
Some people, myself included, need to drop to between 8 times and 10 times weight in calories in order to lose (although I maintain fine at about 14 times my weight in calories).
Be sure to weigh your cheese and nuts, in particular. Both are very easy to underestimate, and are potential calorie-stallers.

Amy Brink - 12 Dec 2003 17:31 GMT Yeah, I will cut out the nuts. I really don't have much cheese, not more than1-2 oz. in a day not every day. (Slice on a burger, sprinkle in some eggs, that's it.) They are very calorie-rich. I definitely don't want to slow down my metabolism more than it already is. People are warning about the hidden carbs that could be found in mayo. Is helman's ok? There is sugar listed in the ingredients but label says no carbs, although the serving size is only 2 tblsp.
10 x my current weight is 2380. I don't usually eat this much per day. My range is 1800-2200/day. Do you think that's too many?
Thanx again, Amy 238/238/180 12/01/03

As other have said, it has only been 11 days. You could be eating too many calories, or you maybe getting some hidden carbs that you haven't accounted for, getting too much salt, or suffering from hormonal stuff, and one or more of these could be masking the water loss which should occur during this time.
I'd kill the nuts and review everything you eat again for hidden carbs. You might wish to restrict salt a bit, too. Give that a few days and see what happens. That water weight loss should show up sooner or later. After than is the time to worry about calories, imo, since that initial water weight loss is more about carb intake than calories.

I found out how to stop craving nuts so much: I bought some that were unsalted. Yuck! Try eating a bunch of unsalted nuts! The more you eat, the less you like it---until you just flat quit! Since then, I haven't had ANY nut cravings.....
