How about these bagels? They are really good and I'm wondering if they're as
low carb as they claim. They are 2.5 oz....CALORIES 135/1.5%, CALORIES FROM

CHOLESTEROL: 0mg/0%,CARBOHYDRATES: 13.7/ 1.5%, DIETERY FIBER:

Ingredients.....almond flour, soy flour, bran flour, oat flour, sesame flour,
unbleached flours, vital flour wheat, wheat germ, salt, anise seeds,
maltisweet,cream of tartar,egg whites,soybean oil, dried yeast,
soy protein, water, & fiber gum. They are supposed to contain only 5.7
grams of carb per bagel. I usually have one every morning (toasted semi
crisp) with cream cheese and a cup of tea.
I just copied everything on the lable and am hoping someone can give me some
idea wheather or not I might keep them on my menu. Thanks.

If you do the math it appears that there's quite a bit more than 5.7g
carbs/bagel. There's even more than the 13.7g stated on the label. Are you
sure a 'serving' is an entire bagel?
135 calories - 18 calories from fat = 117 calories
1g protein = 4 calories 117 - 4 = 113 calories from carbs
113/4 = 28.25g carbs
Even if you subtract the 7.5g of fiber and 0.5g of sugar alcohol you still
wind up with 20.25g carbs.
Can you keep them on your menu? It depends on how low carb you want to eat
and if eating one triggers cravings.

Yes, either something was taken out of context, eg serving size, or
this is the most whacked out label in a long time. On the other hand,
the list of ingredients looks like it could be a decent low carb
product. The first 2 ingredients are almond flour and soy flour.

The first two are fine it's what follows that's the kicker....... bran
flour, oat flour, unbleached flours, vital flour wheat, and wheat germ. All of
that added together could easily make up the bulk of the bagel. Just because
an ingredient is listed first or second doesn't mean it's the major
component. It just means there's more of it than other single
ingredients........ even if it's just a pinch more.
