Hi everyone. I've been doing a modified South Beach/Atkins WOE for the
past 4 months and have lost 20 lbs.(20 to go). My question is what do
all of you do with protein powder? I bought a container at Whole Foods
a few weeks ago but I'm a bit stumped about using it. Any recipes or
suggestions?
Enjoying the journey so far.....

mix it in some SF drink of some kind...make a shake....I like mine in fruit
2 O and Tangerine-flavored Diet Rite (not at the same time, mind you).
mix it will sour cream and splenda....
mix it with ground flax, hot water & heavy cream, splenda, cinnamon, etc, to
make hot breakfast like-oatmeal-mushy stuff.
bake with it. using to replace flour with nut flour & protein powder
Many more. Start trying things :)

If I am particularly peckish on any day I make a protein shake with it
to drink.

Mickey,
It depends on what kind of protein powder it is. If it's soy, I'd suggest
throwing it out as it tastes digusting. <g>
If it has carbs, ignore it. (Whole Foods and Trader Joes sell some sugary
Whey and Egg proteins.)
But, if it has only 1 or 2 grams per scoop, rejoice! The vaniall or plain
flavors make a great substitute for flour in recipes for pancakes and sweet
breads. I have several of them on my recipe page at

Add it to liquid of choice plus fruit of choice plus nuts plus ice
plus sweetener to taste = great smoothie!

I buy an unflavored whey-based protein powder. The stuff I use is 0
carbs. It's also zero soy so it tastes good!
Because it's unflavored, I have lots more options for using it than
the flavored stuff. I can do a strawberry shake with frozen
strawberries or various flavored shakes with extracts, but my absolute
favorite breakfast is a decadent mocha milkshake. Recipe:
