The story is about a study being conducted on fat people that instead of
relying on what they report it actually tracks their activity level and
what they eat.

We've long had a conflict on one had of folks reporting fat people who
eat less than skinny people and who are more active than skinny people.
On the other hand there are folks who insist that fat people eat more
and exercise less and if they say otehrwise they are wrong.

At some point there will be actual data that tells what really happened.
Data rules.

Data? You might look at Francis Benedict's "Human Vitality and
Efficiency Under Prolonged Restricted Diet", and Ancel Keys' "The
Biology of Human Starvation". Or, does the data have to be digital?
