Alton Brown was on FoodTV about his diet

trader4@optonline.net - 05 Mar 2010 12:34 GMT Back in January there was a discussion here about Alton Brown having lost 50 lbs in 6 months on a diet. He was on a new Good Eats episode last week that focused on the diet. They were hinting at a new book he's coming out with about it. Maybe that explains why he looked so terrible on Iron Chef at the white house. He lost a drastic amount of weight in a short time so he could write the book. He looked a lot better in the new video, maybe because he put back on some weight after reaching the 50 lb benchmark.
I'm sure you can find info about the diet at FoodTV. Some of the basics were he eliminated almost all refined carbs and starchy vegetables. He did eat pasta and whole grain rice once a week. He also only ate red meat once a week, used healthy oils, and had oily fish several times a week. He did eat fruit freely. At least that's what I remember about it. It was definitely a much reduced carb diet compared to what the typical person eats.

Was there a second episode about his new eating method? I watched the first one. My Tivo recorded an episode with the same title a couple of days ago but marked it as a repeat. I'll double check the original airing date.

Body builders do that. I tend to think it's more work than it's worth but it is definitely effective at resetting leptin and T3 levels.
It seemed like Sugarbusters or a mostly paleolithic based plan to me. Lower carb but not low carb. If he managed the loss without being constantly hungry then it was a good plan for him.

I have a Tivo too and only recorded the one episode and I don't know of any other. When I said it was last week, I may have been wrong. It was either late last week or earlier this week. Tivo is so cool. It blows away my cable company, Cablevision, PVR in terms of capability and ease of use. They use Scientific Atlanta's box and the PVR is a real piece of junk. Everyone should try a Tivo.

I keep backpedaling as hard as I can but the sucking vortex of grandmahood keeps dragging me forward. have another sweetie in my life now, a girl, four, the terror of her older brother and the spitting image of her mother. my revenge is complete, hehe. my daughter got herself for her own child. she has already admitted she looks ahead with deep dread and ruefully hopes belated apologies to dear old ma for her hellion days might help divert future catastrophe. somewhat like a magic spell. won't work, of course, but I won't spoil the surpise, and merely bask in the long delayed words 'mom you were right!' and 'I am sooo sorry I put you through all that, how ever did you keep from killing me?' with a serene and evil smile.
and you?

If I do, I'll have to get a new reader. This Windows Live reader really has essential zero support for newsgroups. I can't find any kind of filtering at all for this "off the chart" spam.

I pay about $14 per year for individual.net, the German server, which is excellent and reliable, IME.

Yes, it can be programmed not to record suggested shows, and only to record what you specify.
Set your suggestion and wish list preferences accordingly.

However I doubt it will find much as the level of media interest is near zero. I surprised they are re-running Blaine's show. He was pretty good while he lasted. But once you have the basics down as to what to substitute to regular recipes to make them LC, you can work with a lot of the regular cooking show recipes.

I'm currently reading "Game Change" on my Kindle. Just now, I read this paragraph in reference to Sarah Palin:
"It's my understanding that you might be on the Atkins diet, he said. That Goofy diet is bad for you. I want you off it today. I'm alarmed by your weight loss and it's noticeable even in just a couple of weeks. In order to perform at your highest level, you have to have a balanced diet."
I couple of screen prior there is mention of Palin only eating a couple bites of steak a day...and barely drinking anything.
:) Walter Bushell - 01 Apr 2010 01:45 GMT > >> x-no-archive: yes > >> [quoted text clipped - 31 lines] > > :) Oh, I agree with a balanced diet. The question is what is balanced, and for whom? For those of us with syndrome X, eating carbs is non good.
