It may be necessary, but it is unfortunate that the the good doctor is
also hustling for subscribers to his own health plan, i.e. is he doing
good, or is he doing well?

It's also odd that Dr. Weil defends red meats, but doesn't include them
in his healthy eating pyramid.

In any event, if you go to the USDA National Nutrient Database
<http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/>, you will see that most
fat in beef is unsaturated.

This article is a bit of a change in his attitude, his plan just hasn't
caught up yet.  What's happening is that more and more research is showing
that low carb and high fat is the way to go, however, the diet preachers
have to change their message slowly so people don't notice how they were
wrong for so long.

Ansel Keys isn't the first doctor to get it wrong, for what ever reason
(usually research grants). Women were experimented upon with
diethylstibesterol, hormone replacement, and thalidomide. All touted by
doctors as just the thing to cure you. If it hadn't been for a law suite
filed by chiropractors in 1975, in response to the AMA trying to
discredit their alternative approach to curing (a suite won and up-held
in 1991) we wouldn't have access to alternative medicine today.

It comes back to Gary Taubes again.  I don't guess they give the
Nobel Prize in medicine to writers, but maybe they should in this
case.
