I made this for myself.  It may give motivation to those who weigh daily and
struggle to control calorie intake.

It's free but you'll need Microsoft Excel.  Good Luck!

Shame you've tried to make money for very little work

It would be nice if I could:

a) track all my 11 months worth of data
b) use metric units.
I'm not going to pay you to make such trivial changes so;

If you enter

AAAAAAAABBAn
as the password in the daily tracker sheet this will give you access so you
can change your own scale and do what you damn well want with this file and
not be charged $2 by this chiseller!

For the novice user

open the file
click Tools, Protection, Unprotect Sheet and enter the password exactly as
above (eight capital A's, two capital B's, another capital A and then a
small n)

this might not be this greedy bastards actual password but it works
(Microsoft isn't very good at keeping secrets, hash keys indeed!)

I haven't tried this password on the other file but it might work.

"Chiseler"?  "Greedy"?  Adam, it sounds like your blood pressure went up
when you tried to unlock the spreadsheet.  I hope you are better now.

Believe me... this wasn't an attempt to make money.  The spreadsheets are
fully functional and useful (and will always be).  They are not "trial
versions" that expire.  They are what they are.  As I stated, I tried to
make the range wide enough to encompass all of those that have a weight
issue and want a visual aid to track their progress.  If I had done this to
try to skewer people into sending me $2, I would have disabled something
like the graph or locked the top start date.  It is generic with no ads,
emails, names, or dates on the front.  The only mention of money is at the
very bottom of the "read me" file that is included in the zip.  It is in
regard to customization requests.

I think that this spreadsheet serves it's purpose as it is with all the
cells locked except for the ones where a number is entered by the user.
There is no need to change anything else.

You're just pissed because it was "protected" with a password (so I thought)
to prohibit tampering.

The fact is, I did it this way to discourage customization/repair requests.
I'm apparently not the Excel whiz you are and what you call what I did
"little work", I would call "a bit of effort" because I am not fluent in
Excel.  I'm still learning.  I didn't whip this up in 15 minutes.

I also created a workout spreadsheet that tracks running and biking
miles/times/weekly/monthly/yearly.  Like this one, I felt good about it when
I was finished so about three years ago I placed it on my homepage for
people to download and use for free.  I'm a good guy.  Quite a few others
apparently liked it, as well.  It wasn't long before I was getting
customization requests (some of which I didn't know how to do).  And I
didn't have the sheet "protected" so people were accidentally deleting
formulas from cells that made the sheet work.

My email address was left in the footer list so I was getting year-old
mangled spreadsheets with a year's worth of data sent to that email address
with pleas to fix something that the user had accidentally messed up.  I
helped when I could figure out what was wrong.  So on this one, I decided to
protect all the cells that someone would not need access nor need to change.

Did I Spam this group?
I don't think so.

Do I think I'm going to make money?
No.

Will the average user accidentally delete a formula from his/her
spreadsheet?
Not this time.

Will I still help people without charging them a fee?
Of course.  I'm a nice guy.

If you charge $2 to change the scale on a graph that works out at $240 per
hour seeing as it takes less than 15 seconds to do. I'd call that greedy.

If you put up a sheet as freeware and unprotected then anyone can customise
it in any way they want. If they screw it up they can always redownload it
or retrieve it from the original zip file.

Which of these statements is correct?

1) from the readme file:

If you would like the weight range chaanged, Paypal me $2 and send me the
file with a description of what you want and I'll change the range(s) and
send it back to you via email.

Paypal ID and email:   sgxxxxx@hotmail.com

or

2) Will I still help people without charging them a fee?
Of course.  I'm a nice guy.

They seem to contradict each other unless you'd only charge for changing the
weight range and you'd do everything else for free. Seems a bit arbitary to
me.

If you want no customisation requests then say so.

Tell you what, when I have time I'll modify your sheet to put in a user
defined weight range and email it to you, all for no fee whatsoever.

Adam

PS I've never been called a whiz before, thanks. I'm not though, just read
the books.

You really need to get over yourself, Adam.  He's provided a very useful
tool for free.  If someone wants to pay him to customize it, $2 is a fine
fee.  Do you work for free?  I bet your employer will be glad to know you
do.

I appreciate the spreadsheet like it is.  A LOT.

If you liked that spreadsheet then just send me $5 and i promise to send u an
even better one (honest).

I'm a good guy :-)

I'll customise it for free if you want.

It bugs me that people like Stevie charge money for doing very little. My
mother was recently quoted ?150 plus taxes to change a hard drive in her
computer. I guess parasites will always choose the vulnerable.

All Stevie has to do is click two boxes in an options dialogue to enable
Excel to automatically select the weight range to suit. He hasn't and will
charge you $2 for the "service". If you want to pay him then that's fine.

For the record, unprotect the sheet, click on the "Pounds" axis graph. An
options box should open. Click scale and select Auto Minimum and Auto
Maximum. then save the sheet.

Was that worth $2? If you think so then perhaps you'd be interested in some
bridges I've got for sale in London. I can also put you in touch with
someone who sells some wonderful medicine based on the oil from a snake
which cures all known ailments.

I meant to go and download this, but forgot to save the message.  Can
someone repost it with instructions?
Thanks in advance!
Peace, Bette  :)

OK, now I'm REALLY confused!!  From what I remember, the spreadsheet looked
just fine the way it was.  I was THRILLED!!  So is it not good the way it
is?  What do you mean 'customize' it?  What would you need customizing on??
Again, I haven't downloaded it yet.
Peace, Bette  :)

Hi Bette.
It's great the way it is - but I'm biased :)   Adam's issue was the average
user couldn't unprotect the cells that contained the formulas to father
customize the sheet and I have a sentence at the very bottom of the
instructions in accompanying "Read Me" file that I will do customizations
for $2.  For this, I'm a crook and a parasite and I'm sorry.

Seriously, you can use it without fear of accidentally deleting or dragging
something that shouldn't be deleted or dragged.  It serves it's intended
purpose and no modification is needed whatsoever.

I recently put up metric versions.

It's quite nice, and thank you.

I do have a suggestion, if you don't mind.  If you're tinkering with it,
consider having the graph start at 100 pounds or so.  Alternatively, you
could have the graph draw a line across itself at the goal weight.  It'd
make the weight loss look much more impressive.

In any case, I like it quite a lot, you did a great job.
