If I weigh myself right when I get out of bed I'm about 7-8 lbs lighter than
when I weigh myself right before bed.  Which reading should I be going by?

Pick one and use only that one.

Good advice.

I'm sure it's never heard that from you before, at least not sincerely.
Do you think it'll survive the strain on it's heart?

And next: surprising research that shows that if you lose weight, you
may be lighter than you were before!  Trey

Good advice is good advice, even when it comes from a fraud and
coward. As for the strain, one can hope. But then Mu_ppet would
consult with his other half, Chung.

It really doesn't make any difference, pick one time of the day/week/month
and be consistent. It doesn't do any good to compare a wakeup reading with
a bedtime reading if you are looking a a wieght loss trend, apples and
oranges
you know. I wiegh myself weekly, on Saturday morning right after I
get up. It makes me feel a little better since I know that is likely my
lightest
time of the week.

The lower one, of course.  And always weigh yourself at the same time.
For me, it's as soon as I get up in the morning, because I seem to lose
the most weight while I sleep.

Where does it go?

Old topic.  To rehash one factor: CO2 in breath and H2O in breath and
perspiration.  A complete metabolism of either fat or carbs results in
only these two molecules anyway.  In fact, indirect calorimiters (like
the BodyGem) measure your metabolism by comparing your "in" breath
with your "out" breath.

Plus most people use the toilet before weighing in the morning.

Just weigh yourself under the same circumstances, so you can see
whether you are losing, gaining, or stable.

8 pounds?? That's a HUGE difference!  Do it in the morning for sure.

I heard (or read) recently that you weigh your most at 7:00pm (I have
no idea where this came from, but in my personal experience, I would
have to concur).

Personally, I weigh myself in the morning, right before I get in the
shower, after my morning pee :).

If you weigh yourself using the same scale, at the same time of day,
you'll at least get a sense of pounds lost, if not your actual weight.

Do you have a good scale? We used to have one that would give a
different reading, depending on where you stood on it. If your scale
isn't that great, try to stand in the same spot, looking forward, and
have someone else read the numbers. Even a lean forward to read the
dial can make the dial move.

The scale is good advice.  I used to be able to cheat and weigh up to
5 lbs less if I stood on it a certain way.  I got a Tanita and trust
me, I can't cheat anymore.

I like weighing myself at my lowest weight each day.  For me that's
first thing in the morning after any BM.

Good luck.
