Hi,

As I have said previously I have been low-carbing for 5 weeks and in
some of the previous posts I keep reading about people going to the
doctors to get this and that checked (cholesterol, etc.).  Is this
normal? How do I know that my cholesterol isn't too high.  Do I need
to get any tests done?  If so, what?  My husband just found out he is
a type II diabetic about 6 months ago and he is always at the doctors
have all these levels checked.  Do I need to bother?

When was your last full physical??  Maybe it's time to do one.

Have you done any reading?  Atkins, Protein Power, etc?  It is a very good
idea to read at least one of the major books on LC carbing before attempting
the diet.  A lot of these issues are address.

Yes, if you are concerned about your health, it would have been an excellent
idea to have your bloodwork done prior to starting LC, and then some time
later (like 6 months, imo).  I have mine checked twice a year.

You should read Life Without Bread to learn more about cholesterol too, or
any of a number of recent books that discuss what is known about it.

My insurance company covers "physicals", meaning that I only need to
pay $10 for a "physical" and blood tests. I think that it's a great
deal and worth doing, hence I went for it and did blood tests recently
(no results yet).

If your insurance co covers it as well, why not do it?

Also, they sell home cholesterol test kits on ebay.

If you go for it, just tell the doc what you would like tested, he'll
order it for you.

It would be a good thing to know your starting cholesterol and keep
track of how it changes.
