I am getting sick of eggs and would like to try something else. It doesn't
need to be cereal. Thanks

Have you tried soft-boiling an egg (or hard boil) and eating directly from
the egg with a little spoon? (You will also need an egg decapitator tool and
egg stand.)
You can try to find specialty eggs and do this.  Especially the larger ones.
Ostrich eggs come to mind, haha.
As far as cereal goes, I saw low-carb HOT cereal at WalMart (next to LC
baking and pancake mixes).

you don't need a decapitator tool:) a spoon will work find, just break
the top part of the shell.

Otherwise, yes, soft boiled eggs are delicious.

Think outside of the traditional breakfast ideas.  As I sit here and read
your post I am having turkey and cheese with a side of mayo - and I plan on
having a couple of celery sticks.  Certainly not "traditional" breakfast
foods!  Leftovers are wonderful in the AM.  If you have time - cook a
hamburger.  Just some ideas - hope this helps.

I'm gonna make some bread pudding with LC bread, Carb Countdown
milk, etc.  Maybe pumpkin, maybe plain like Nancy H. posted
about.  That will be breakfast for quite a few days.

Bran, flaxseed meal (you can grind 'em in your blender), and a little
protein powder mixed together makes a pretty good hot cereal. You can
find recipes via google.

If you're on maintenance, the best tasting hot cereal is "old
fashioned" style OATMEAL. It has 11 grams of carbs per half a cooked
cup, is high in protein and fiber, is dirt cheap and tastes great. (I
put peanut butter or Smart Balance in it to prevent cravings... and
make it taste better.)

Not quick cooking or instant.. too glycemic.

Many people use an inexpensive coffee grinder to grind their flaxseeds.  I know
that my mini-food-processor didn't do anything but spin them around, and I
suspect it would be the same in a blender.

Try Quaker Puffed Wheat, it's fairly low in carbs and taste like food not
like cardboard like most low carb
stuff.

For breakfast I have been rotating between (1) eggs or eggs & chicken
sausages,  (2) baked, marinated tofu with cheese melted over it, and (3) a
flax meal and almond breakfast mix of my own devising.  On weekends, I make
low-carb pancakes according to a recipe on Jenny's website (follow the link
in her signature).  Option (2) is not induction food, I think, but should be
fine afterwards - 2 oz of the stuff I use is plenty and has 2 g net carbs.
You should be able to find it at a large supermarket; there may be several
flavors so read labels for carb content and try one that sounds good to you.
I use Trader Joe's brand, "Asian" flavor.  For oprion (3), I posted my
mixture a week or two ago, and other people have mixtures of their own that
are frequently posted.  Many people just take a few tablespoons of ground
flax seeds, some splenda and some cinnamon, and add hot water.  That's the
simplest version.

If you have access to a Trader Joe's their More & Less cereal has 7 grams of
carbs, no artificial ingredients, a nice crunch and a cinnemon taste. Eaten
with half a cup of Hood Carb Countdown milk  it keeps me fed and not
thinking about food for hours.

Is that soy-y?  I forget whether you eschew soy.

Jean,

I eat soy, and yes it is soy.

BTW, today I was away from home and I finally found the Z-carb bars you'd
been asking me about.

I tested the Dark Chocolate Macadamia nut.  The flavor had that cooling
taste that is typical of sugar alcohols. I thought the chocolate taste was
pretty weak compared to Lindt 70%.  The calories are very high-181 for a
small bar. I ate a segment 1/3 the size of the whole bar--about the size of
the portion  I eat of the Lindt bars, and did not get the same feeling of
satisfaction I get from the Lindt, instead, I found myself quickly craving
more.  I haven't had time to check my blood sugar, but since a piece of dark
chocolate the same size with real sugar doesn't raise my blood sugar
perceptibly either, I don't expect to see anything.

For me, I think I'll just stick with one Lindt.  The carbs may be lower with
the Zbar, but the calories are very high and the deep chocolate flavor
seemed weak to me.

Uh-oh!  Here I was just gonna check 7-11 again. BTW, that cooling
effect might be okay in some chocolate-mint preparation.

Oddly enough I just tried one of those myself tonight for the first time. I
thought it was fabulous! I did not experience any of the creepy taste
sensation I get with those candies sweetened with malitol, and I thought the
chocolate taste was very intense and satisfying. Best commercial SF bar I
have ever tried. Not an every day event, but it was a great experience. And
no cravings at all afterwards.

Did you get it at a 7-eleven?  I went to four looking for them,
thinking that was where they were.  No success.  Where are they?

Yes, I got it at the local 7-11 (in NJ). I walked in the door and
immediately to the left as you walked in the door they had an entire display
rack of all sorts of LC bars and choices, including 4 different types of the
Zcarb bars. They also carry a whole bunch of the Atkins products, but I
didn't really look and see what they had. The poster on the window showed
the Atkins bread for one, but I'm not especially interested in bread.

I just saw the bars, grabbed a few to try out, and left. I've tried two so
far - the choc-macadamia, and the choco-PB, and thought both were excellent.

If it ever warms up here, I'll go look again.  I assume this LC
poster is new, so maybe they are making more of an effort to get
such things in.  Happily, the 7-Eleven nearest to me is the only
one that has the Iced Botanical drinks, which are pretty good.  (I
prefer the strawberry-kiwi one.)

Jean -- if you like the strawberry-kiwi combination, you might like the
Hansen's diet soda of that same flavor (sweetened with Splenda and ace-K).
I saw it at Trader Joe's today.

(They had a couple of other flavors too: black cherry and tangerine-lime.
I picked up a six-pack of the tangerine-lime just to try something
different.)

Thanks for the tip.  I forgot to get my favorite pasta sauce when
I was at TJ's this week, so I'll be back there within two days or
so.

Jean,

There were two 7-11s in a town I drove through yesterday, Sunderland MA.
One had them, the other didn't.

I tried a second piece of the Zcarb bar last night and had pretty much the
same experience.  Something about that "cooling" taste that comes with sugar
alcohols sparks off a hunger response in me and makes me want to eat more.
I've noticed this before with the Ross chocolates. Since I really don't need
180 calories of extra stuff in my daily plan right now (I'm balancing out
the excesses of Christmas week by eating very modestly) the carbs aren't as
much as an issue for me as the calories so the Lindt 70% square is a better
treat value for me.

Needless to say if you wanted to eat three square of chocolate rather than
one, and could handle the 180 calories, the Zcarb bar would be useful. As
advertised it doesn't seem to cause a sugar spike.  The carbs in the Lindt
are higher--about 4 grams and only allow for eating one square. But for some
reason I find the Lindt 70% extremely satisfying in a way no other chocolate
is.  And after eating it I don't feel like I need to eat any more chocolate
which is rarely the case with other chocolates. (Don't ask me the details of
the Christmas week excesses but the "Chocolate" played a major part in them.

I guess I have to figure out the trade-offs, assuming I find the
things.  I looked for the Z-bars Sunday before last, so maybe they
have come in since then.

Maybe it is good that I can only have chocolate once a week at the
very most (otherwise, I get headaches).  I like a pretty dark
chocolate, which can be good from a carb point of view--if I go
with the real thing.

I guess the things that have to be considered are:

flavor and mouthfeel (which = satisfaction)
carbs
calories

I wonder why that cooling effect causes you to want more?  Do you
sense that with ALL sugar alcohols?  The only one I've seen people
comment on in that regard is erythritol.

Jean,

I definitely sense a cooling mouthfeel with maltitol and, to a lesser
extent, lacitol.

My body could live on a diet of nothing but chocolate quite happily and has
attempted it from time to time. <g>

Roger,

I don't think that the craving was set off because I enjoyed the bar, since
I enjoy the rich, dark chocolate flavor of the Lindt much, much more than I
do the faint chocolate flavor of the Zcarb bar, yet it doesn't set off
cravings.

There's something about that cool tingliness.  I noticed the same effect
with Velamints. They were only a gram or so, but they filled my mouth with
that tingle and sure enough I'd end up eating more and more and then be
hungry.

Got some Z-bars from LowCarbOutlet.com.  Just tried the Chocolate with
peanut butter. I have to agree- it's the best low-carb candy I've
tried (although I have not tried the Lindt.)  Maltitol and lactitol
put me through some terrible GI perturbations.

I really like the Atkins Crispy Almond cereal. High in fiber and protein, also!

My favorite breakfast is a fruit (blueberries, strawberries) smoothie
with sweetener, ice, nuts, whey protein powder and liquid (water, no
calorie soda, or other low carb liquid such as low carb milk,
soymilk).

Well eggs and susage is about all I ever eat for breakfast. However I
have
tried this cereal, its a pretty good although a tad crunchy. Its high
in protien and fiber, healthy as all hell.

I think good tasting low carb cereal would have to be an oxymoron.
