I saw Jamie Oliver on BBC Food yetsterday and saw something I had to try
today:

Cut up a vanilla-pod roughly. Chop it up real good in the food processor
or blender. Add confectioner's sugar, chop it up real good again. Sift
the vanilla sugar, and chop the remaining chunks some more and add more
sugar. Sift that.

In the ovenproof dish, line up various fruits (I used pears, apples and
a banana) and perhaps berries so that it looks nice. Spread some vanilla
sugar over this (don't be cheap). Squirt lots of brandy/cognac over
this. Bake at 400F/200C until fruits are somehwere between very chewy
and tender. The brandy and vanilla sugar is now a yummy sirup. If most
of it is in the bottom, spread it over the fruits with a spoon.

Meanwhile whip some of the vanilla sugar into mascarpone cheese. Serve
the fruits with this.

This is divine - so if you want a cheat day, this is one of the best
choices...

Saw him on the Food Network here in the States last night and he did it with
tangerines and shaved high percentage cocoa chocolate bar (Lindt 85%),
having it tonight with blackberries, tangerines, whipped cream and shaved
chocolate.......hold the sugar syrup though, will put vanilla extract in the
whipped cream, he also sprinkled chopped fresh mint on it as
well............

I'll try it with Da Vinci's vanilla syrup -- yum!

Hi Archon,
How can it be a proper cheat without *chocolate*?  >:-)

Take care,
Carmen

Maybe with the marscapone cheese it wouldn't be so bad, but honestly I
can't imagine eating this without a whopper of a sugar headache.

I think we in the low carb camp ought to take the lead in getting
morality out of the kitchen. "oooh, I sinned! I was bad!" is for
Weight Watchers. In low carb, if you eat something you shouldn't have,
you actually feel crappy. PHYSICALLY crappy. (At least I do!)

Now which one is more likely to keep your weight off?
