Luna - 11 Jan 2004 13:38 GMT Ok, I saw this ad in today's Parade Magazine. If I remember correctly, Morningstar Farms is all frozen vegetarian stuff, veggie burgers, etc, and this ad says they have "13 lower fat veggie options . . . all with 4 grams of net carbs or less" and the fine print says "Net carbs = carbs less dietary fiber" so I'm guessing there's no sugar alcohols. I just wanted to give a head's up to anyone trying to do vegetarian low-carb, and anyone else (like me) who sometimes goes overboard on the fat content. I'm planning to try some of these soon, I'll review them here when I do.

Is that why it's supposed to be bad for you? I'm not scared of GM foods, I don't see how the end result is any more likely to be dangerous than the old fashioned way of cross-breeding to get desirable traits.

What really made me mad, though, was how these companies treat people when their crops are cross contaminated. That's just not right and I don't care to support them.

Well, I am very cautious person, so I try to avoid them--and I try to eat organic food, etc., etc. But who knows what the story will be in the long run.

Otherwise, some of their products sound interesting.

There are few surprises other than the very clear demarcation between items sold primarily at health food stores and HF supermarkets and items sold in the normal markets. I didn't know that line was so distinct with few exceptions: baby food (except formula), thank goodness; Cape Cod Potato Chips; Ovaltine; Wasa (one type only); and a few brands I don't recognize. Misc. observations: what happened to Frookies? I thought they started out being a good alternative, but maybe that was never totally true. There's not much information on the various protein etc. bars, so I wonder about those. Also, I will have to be more carefully about my beverages. Thanks for posting the url, jmk!
