heh,
It's 4:26am now, and I just woke up starving.  Sadly, there is no low carb
food in the house, except for eggs (which I am not in the mood for), and a
late night trip to Kroger does not sound appealing.

SO, I am going thru the same things, cept I don't care really what I
eat...as long as it's on my low carb list:)

Do you have cream cheese? Mix 3 ounces cream cheese, one egg, cinnamon,
Splenda and nuke for about a minute and 45 seconds, good Cheeses Danish warm
or cold! Who needs Kroger's? Hey, it's morning!

I'll need to try that one- thanks!

Atkins is easier if you plan your groceries- you will save $$ in the long
run.  I'd better get to the store for some morning items

I ended up falling asleep in my computer chair (a recliner)
and not eating anything more!
Im scared to drink the hot chocolate! I have Swiss Miss AND KETO
but Im scared to use it because once I taste it I might go nuts!
I think my downfall before xmas was those Atkins Revolution Rolls
I spread butter on the bottoms and sprinkled cinnamon and splenda
on it and ate 2 with my decaf  (decaf, cream, liquid splenda, cream, cream
and more cream)
The rolls and the cream made me binge on cream and that was it! I gained 10
pounds.
According to the carton of cream its 1 carb per 1 T serving so I was
drinking 32 servings PLUS.
Thats more than a pint.
So thats 32 PLUS carbs at one sitting!
So Im back on track now but I want something sweet now and soda aint cutting
it anymore!

I doubt it was the 32g carbs that caused you to gain weight. It was more
likely the 825+ calories at one sitting.
No matter how few carbs you eat, if you're eating too many calories you're
going to gain weight or, at the very least, not lose.

Do you have access to Canfield's chocolate soda in your area?
Sometimes I find that will soothe the chocolate beast.

Yes, but Ive been drinking Waist Watchers Chocolate Fudge soda alot lately.
I have been nauseous the past 2 mornings and think this all has something to
do with running out of the vitamins I was taking and switching to the Atkins
multi vitamins
The vitamins I was taking were a prenatal vitamin which alot of models say
they take cause they
have more of everything and the new Atkins ones have alot of stuff I dont
know if I really need
but I bought them cause they didnt have Iron.

Right.  So a good dose of making it to day 15 will do it.

In the meantime, have enough fat that you're terrified at the amount.
That much doesn't make sense later on, but right now during Induction
it takes the edge off of the carb cravings.  It can't completely turn
them off, they are a natural event during Induction, but taking the
edge off is usually enough and it only lasta a few more days.
Karen Rodgers - 11 Jan 2004 18:25 GMT
>a good dose of INDUCTION should help with those cravings.

Actually, a dose of chocolate does have things in it we need.  The
biggest problem with chocolate (assuming that you don't have low carb
chocolate handy) is the sugar content.

My solution is make my own hot cocoa.  I take heavy whipping cream,
cocoa powder, a slight shake of salt, a splash of vanilla (don't ask
me why this is needed, but it is), stevia, and saccarin.  Mix it up,
add some water, and nuke for 45 seconds to a minute and a half.  Stir
again, and serve.

My treat is a cup of coffee with daVinci white chocolate syrup and a dash of
heavy cream.  It doesn't take a lot of cream.  Of course, at 11:30 p.m. I
wouldn't drink my regular caffeinated coffee, but that's not when I usually
get the craving, it's more like late afternoon and it IS more likely to
happen when it's very cold.  I haven't tried the regular chocolate yet but I
imagine it would be good as well.  I do allow myself a bedtime snack of SF
jello with cream every night, if I wake up hungry I can't go back to sleep
so I always have a bedtime snack.

As long  as you contine to eat this crap you'll feed your cravings and keep
wanting more.  Get rid of it.  Eat only "real" foods:  meats, vegetables,
poultry, fish, cream, butter, healthy oils, etc.  Detoxify yourself. Anyone
beginning a low-carb way of eating is only kidding themself if they try to
substitute artificial crap they were used to eating in their old way of
eating.  If you are truly "scared stiff" that you'll binge again, throw this
junk out or give it away.    Get some backbone.  You are the only one who
can decide what foods you put into your mouth.  Why do you go to 7-11's
looking for zbars and then complain that you're having cravings?  You need
less talk and more action.

My brother is an alcoholic.  How long do you think he would stay dry if he
kept his cupboards stocked with beer and vodka?  Or even non-alcoholic beer,
because he likes the taste?

Who cares? Slim Fast has nutrients and minerals your body needs, just
like *fake* vitamins. Fake, real...some don't really care. Nutrients is
what's important. Fake foods...that's a joke.  Tell the doc you want
*real* meds and not *fake* meds made in a lab. Some have no clue.

Well, if all Preesi had was a spoon of slimfast, she is doing a pretty
good job.

That's the bottom line. Splitting hair about whether one spoon ruins
her claim or not detracts from an important point, which is that she
is not really eating junk food, supposedly.

Why would I lie!
Ive admitted I drank all that heavy cream.
Im not eating any kind of junk food!
BUT I do plan on it!
I want a plain milk chocolate ZCarb bar!
Im not asking anyone else to.
I dont drink, do drugs, or smoke, I dont go out at night and hang out in
bars (never have)
I dont sleep around! I dont call ppl stupid, retarded or idiots and I am
nice and giving to my friends
So if I want to have a bunch of fake food someday or even tomorrow then I
will and Im gonna eat it,
enjoy it and be happy. Too much restrictions are not good for the soul! Its
far too anal retentive and

This sounds all very wholesome.  I'm trying to reconcile that with the

Although I really dont think that will happen, even though he is as big a
computer geek as I am,
I do not think a very small pic that is tastefully done and that you cant
even see any detail in,
is so awful as to be disturbing to him. Im NOT touching myself nor engaging
in any sexual acts
and Im mostly covered up.
What disturbs me MORE is bloody bashed in faces that I see in some KIDS
Wrestling magazines!
And daily violent stories on the news, and parents who do drugs and watch R
rated movies in
front of their kids.
And the other thing that irks me is false faced religious ppl that on the
way home from church
see the person whose car is broken down on the side of the road but they
dont stop to help
because they are religious robots who go to church, but never listen.

My family is very Usenet active and sees a great deal of what I do.
Unlike Preesi, and most probably you, what we do and say is archived
for a very, very long time and easily accessible. If YOU think you are
hiding out on Usenet, you just got a wake up call, didn't you?

See above about being grown up.

Preesi has a child and parental responsibilities. She had best start
acting like she does. Posting nude pics of herself and believing that
her son will not ever see them is the height of stupidity. Instead of
running around and defending this embarrassment, why don't you spend a
little of your time instructing her, as I have, as to her food
addiction and misguided Usenet sexual life.

as to my family, they spend a lot of time chuckling over this
Preesi-Mu cam thing since they know me so well and you don't know jack

But, please involve your doctor.

This can not be overemphasized because there are millions out there who have
medical conditions that will be altered (improved) with weight loss and this
will cause a new medical condition (over-medication).

Yes, excellent point, Doc. Weight reduction, exercise introduction
(especially aerobic quality), diet/portion restrictions all have
effects on human physiology.

If there is a single, most glaring failing in the personal training
marketplace, it is the near universal lack of education and knowledge
of these complex physiological parameters. Personal trainers who make
recommendations that encompass nutrition, diet and exercise (strength
and aerobic) often do so without any background data on a client's
health status. IMO, they should be shot on sight.

Personal training "certifications" are ludicrous, at best, and these
"certifiers" make matters all the worse. In effect, credentialing
personal trainers or aerobic instructors is a farce hoisted on the
public to misinform them of expertise that does not exist. People like
initials after names regardless of whether those initials have any due
respect attached to them.

To the point of your post, as overfat changes to (near) ideal body fat
levels, the pharmacological (dosage) equation may change. A 250 pound
individual may not need the same dose(s) at 175 pounds. There may be
metabolic changes that are evidenced by lowered BP or more acceptable
lipid profiles.

In any case, having your doctor, or better yet, your specialist if you
have a particular medical issue, to "track" your progress and address
your changing medical needs should be Priority One.

Ain't that the truth. Personal Trainers should restrict their advice to
appropriate exercise...period. They should not be making dietary
suggestions unless they are also a certified dietician and/or nutritionist.
A few classes related to nutrition given in a normal kinesiology program
does not an expert make. I noticed a guy at the gym, some kid right out of
school with a fancy workout suit with "Pro Trainer" on the back....what a
dweeb !

Yes, my mom had a pantry and freezer full of food and I inherited
that trait.  I have collected a lot of ingredients just in case I
want to cook things.  And I collected a lot of bars during the
summer.  I have eaten all of one of them, and that was because I
was at some all-day thing without anything else to eat.  All of
this is like a security blanket I think.  I am also sort-of
enjoying just trying to track items down in case I want them
someday.

I want you to listen closely.

At 175 pounds, your problem with obesity is not WalMart, it is not
"correct" food, it is only about your overconsumption.

Until you stop playing games with calories, you will remain obese.

Now, you have bee rightfully told and there is no more need for
discussion, unless it is about your overconsumption, with me.

Btw, your proclivity for overconsumption has nothing to do with any of
the bullshit you profess.

If you would like a great opportunity to slowly but surely defeat your
excessive consumption habit...

My mom was a great cook.  I was very tiny, with ribs showing, when
I was young, and she was always trying to get me to eat.  (At
about age 10-12, I was a bit chubby.  Then I managed to keep my
weight pretty much under control til I was perhaps in my mid-20s.
Then it was more of a struggle.  No one else in my family was/is
overweight.  My sister is very thin.)  Unfortunately it is snowing
here.  I can feel myself building up to a trip to Wal-Mart (etc.)
to see what's there.  Maybe tomorrow.  It's sort-of ticking me off
that some of this stuff is only available at Super Wal-Mart.

The reason people keep "harmful" or other foods they have decided not
to eat is b/c they haven't really decided not to eat them. They lie
there on the shelves like far away friends, just in case......it's
really about denial and shows without doubt that the dieter hasn't
come any way near close to coming to grips with her love of food.

I have yet to meet many successful, long term, at near or ideal BW
dieters that haven't cleaned out their food shelves.

Preesi is simply playing games with herself and her chances are slim
to none that she will have a life long success at ideal BW.

Have a cup of hot chocolate! Swiss Miss makes a yummy no sugar added
(Splenda sweetened) cocoa that has a net 2 carbs count per envelope. I add a
bit of cream to mine to make it even richer. It's been cold here in Florida

Ah man, I miss that.  I lived in Arizona for 20+ years (went to ASU) first
in Tempe, later in Tucson...now in Atlanta for a number of reasons. (I do
still have property, and family, in AZ...I'll be back:)

I was often asked in my travels how I could stand the summers in Arizona.
My answer was always the same, this was "It's easy, I think about December,
January and February almost everywhere else."  I don't like the cold.  I
like cold and wet even less.

Preesi,
Something that helped me get to goal and then stay there was to shift
my mental focus. It was really hard-even though getting to goal was of
primary importance to me, I made myself stop thinking about it 24/7.

It's just my opinion, but I think you spend a lot of time and energy
thinking about the WOE, food, etc. Of course you're famished. When
images of sugarplums-low carb or not-are dancing in your head, hunger
is sure to follow.

Give yourself a break. You're a really smart girl. Fill your mind and
use your considerable energy to do something else. Stop looking for Z
bars or other low carb foods. Make a list of acceptable foods and make
a meal plan that draws from the foods on your chart. There-done.

Now, you've got some free time on your hands. Put together a research
project. One that DOES NOT involve food or low carb or dieting. Or
start a group of Concerned Parents or Library Patrons or Political
Activists or whatever. Make sure you exercise at least 30 minutes a
day.

The point I am trying to make is that if you concentrate on other,
more important things, eat from your pre-planned list and exercise,
the weight will come off. You will be happier. You won't always be
thinking about food. In fact, some days your food intake will be
secondary to what you are doing. Not every day, but some days.

The down side? We won't see you here so much in ASDLC! Seriously.
Don't get mad at me, I am sure this is not what you wanted to hear. In
fact I debated whether to post or not..............The only reason I
put this post together is because this same advice ultimately worked
for me.

Actually I have no TRUE issues with FOOD, Nor obsessions.
Sorry but I grew up around restaurants and cooking etc.
Food is a HOBBY, or LOVE, not an ISSUE!
If it was an issue or obsession I wouldnt have been able to lose 100 pounds
and keep them off.
I only have 4 obsessions none of them are food.

You dont know me so you shouldnt comment!
Come talk to me on PalTalk before you start making unfounded comments

My only issue is despite exercising and dieting I NEVER can get under 180.
Which Im sure has alot to do with only eating one meal a day for YEARS and
wrecking my metabolism but I gotta live with that!

I was only hungry once 2 days ago.
Im no longer that way.
In fact I dont wanna eat cause Im nauseous

I keep Andes mints in the freezer.  Mostly because I don't like them!
I'm not big on "mint" flavored anything (except for actual mint from a
mint plant).  The point being, since I don't actually like them, I
don't eat them and am not tempted by them particularly.  But if I'm
*really* craving chocolate, one of them has just a couple carbs.

Or make chocolate mousse: basically, just make some whipped cream as
usual (an ounce or so of heavy whipping cream in your blender  a dab
of vanilla extract and a packet of sweetner-of-your-choice), but add a
1/2 TB cocoa (not cocoa mix, just plain cocoa). It doesn't whip up
quite as much as without the cocoa, but makes a nice few bites of
chocolate for few carbs (around 2).

Also try adding a TB of heavy cream to a glass of diet root beer for a
"root beer float" or to a glass of diet orange for a "creamsicle"
flavor.  It's much more satisfying than the soda itself.  Makes a nice
"treat".

None of these are entirley "real" food, but can help with a temporary
craving situation.  I have not stalled from these in the past, nor
found them starting a binge, but then I don't have much of a sweet
tooth.  I'm more likely to lose control over pasta than chocolate.
YMMV.

On another topic, I don't know what anyone's problem with Pressi is,
but I'm darned sick of people jumping on her.

Is this really about her letting her kid dirnk one can of Slimfast?
Cause if that freaks you out, how do you deal with the reality of
thousands of schoolkids who get a Twinkie in their lunch box every
single day?

I baked a from-scratch chocolate cake for my husband and daughter this
week.  I hope the low-carb inquisition isn't going to come after me!
;)

As for the sex stuff in this thread, that is hardly relevant to this
newsgroup, and bringing it in to argue about someone's diet is just a
red herring.  Red herrings are typically used in arguments where one
can't support one's argument otherwise.

I am sure there is a wide variety of orientations and fetishes here,
just as there are in *any* group of people.  Therefore I'm sure that
some of you do stuff I think is weird.  So what?  I'm not here to
discuss sex.

I think much less of the prudes arguing against it than I do of the
woman (whose site I haven't seen anyways).  I frankly think it's
*sick* to attack someone on the basis of sexual orientation and/or
proclivity... and rather high-school-ish, in the stupidest possible
way.

You may think you're attacking one user, but you're atatcking any
number of other people, posters and lurkers alike, who may share the
same or different unusual interests.

If you don't want to do BDSM, I recommend you not do it... and stick
to discussion about low-carb here.

First off, I don't think people here are "jumping" on Preesi. I, personally,
was merely asking a legitimate question.

Secondly, when one puts a link to one's personal website in one's signature
line in a public forum, one is inviting said website to be visited and thus
leaves oneself to be scrutinized.

It doesnt give ppl the RIGHT  to scrutinize me!
Didnt our Mothers tell us "If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything
at all!"
How would any of you ppl who are saying things about me
like me to go to any of your websites and then post ad nauseum about
your weight or the clothing you wore in your pictures or anything on the
site?
YOU WOULD JUMP DOWN MY THROAT SO FAST IT'D MAKE ME THROW UP MY LUNCH!
The strange thing is, I NEVER have said anything sexual or mean or untoward
to any of you
(except the 2 trolls) Ive never brought up my pictures or anything. Except
to defend myself
aganst baseless untrue statements!
I come here to learn and share and maybe crack a few jokes and find some
buddies (maybe)
I dont ask you to go to my personal site or look at my pictures and I
certainly dont deserve
any lip from any of you!
Alot of the times when someone says unsolicited meanspirited statements to
people they do
not know except on a chat or message board they are unhappy with themselves
or their lives
and they choose an anonymous person to unfurl their anger on.
Im a very kind hearted loving person whose been sh.t upon enough and instead
of being mean and nasty maybe if you are hurting inside that much that you
feel the compulsion to be nasty to me if you'd be nice to me Id be the best
friend you have ever had. But you'll never know will you

God forbid anyone should spread love or be nice to another person..........
I come here for SUPPORT and to share.
NOT to be knocked down and wanna eat more or get depressed or get a panic
attack!

Did your mother tell you to wrap up in a flag, expose your genitalia
and breasts and post the pic to a website that your son will see?

yes, it does.  you put your a.s in the public domain (literally, in this
case) and that gives pretty much anyone with access to the internet the
right to scrutinize you.  you don't have to like the reactions you get,
but you do have to deal with the fact that you're going to get them
whether you like them or not.

if you don't want your website associated with your weight loss efforts,
don't post the links in weight loss-related forums.

Well I like your pictures, Preesi dear. They're very nice. Noli Illegitimi

Be nice.

What for? It hasn't gotten her anywhere in this group with all being
so nice to her. She's in complete denial on so many personal issues I
cannot list them all but she is raising a child and being nice to
someone who is screwing around with parenthood doesn't fit realistic
"support".

M_unstruck knows how everyone should live. I bet it's the psychiatric
training. <LOL> Going through life with generosity, grace and
Christian charity. That famous Mu_leheaded sweetness and caring. A
wonderful example to everyone is M-ulchpile. Is it possible that
Mu_cus has more than 2 pounds of fat in his head?

You're very naive. Preesi is a classic case of someone who is posting just
to get attention, and is not interested in the slightest in any low-carb
advice or anything whatsoever that anyone else has to say.  Personally, I
have killfiled her now so I will avoid getting caught up in the further
controversies that are guaranteed to follow her around.

--------------snip-------------------

Why can't you eat chocolate? One quarter cup of UNSWEETENED cocoa
powder (not hot chocolate powder) has approximately 10 grams
carbohydrate.

I don't know what brands are available where you live. Look for
Cadbury's, Nestle's, Fry's, Droste, Hershey's.

Cocoa powder, not hot chocolate powder. And as a bonus, one cup
boiling water to about one heaping tablesppon cocoa powder, no sugar
or milk, and it is a fantastic antioxidant.
