The government food pyramid suggest 300-350 gms per day depending on calorie intake. (Yeah....right, ok...) Most low carbers consider maintenance levels to be about 60-100 a day. Less to lose weight for most people. Your mileage may vary.

You will find your own levels so you do not gain weight, however the DRA
(daily recomended allowance) is around 300g of carbs.
I believe that nutritionalist's agree that 30-40% of your calories need to
come from carbohydrates if you are following the food pyramid (or food
guide, here in canada).
You can find your own CCL (critical carb level) by going on an induction
diet and limiting yourself to 20g carbs or less a day for fourteen days.
After fourteen days, you should be steadilly using your own fat stores for
fuel, and should be seeing weight loss.
Then you can systematically add 5g of carbs per day to your diet, and watch
the scales to see when you stop losing weight, and start gaining.
This tells you what level to stick to in order to see no loss or gain of
weight.
In men the CCL is higher than in women, but everyone's CCL is different.
