Hi,
I've taken the plunge and decided to start Atkins, I was diagnosed
with Diabetes (the controllable kind by diet) and need some input on
my first grocery list.
Does anyone have any suggestions??? I have the Atkins books, but would
like to start tomorrow. I have the menu books, the New Revolution
book, and just taking my time with reading and absorbing the
information. I know I need to start the Induction Phase with only a
minimum of 20 carbs per day. I also have a software program that
tracks the foods I eat, exercise and carbs eaten so I'm all set.. Just
need help with the grocery list.
Thanks in advance,
Vicky

Your grocery list for the Induction period would be the foods listed in the
Induction Allowed/Acceptable Foods chart in the book. (G)
Here's the same information from the Atkins site:

I can tell you what I buy regularly, but I don't know what you like. I'm
not much of a cook, I like quick stuff that I can do in a pan or the
microwave. Don't have a working oven, don't know how to use the grill.
frozen oriental stir-fry (carb counts vary by brand)
bagged salad
bagged baby spinach
bellpeppers
brocolli
onions
tomatoes
celery
smoked salmon (lox)
deli meat (usually ham and turkey)
cheese - sliced, string, shredded and cubed
cream cheese
frozen shrimp
turkey sausage (i just like the taste better than other kinds)
eggs
That's what I buy for me. I live with my dad, who does know how to cook,
so he also gets hamburger, steak, chicken, pork chops, lamb chops,
basically any kind of meat that's on sale. He grills it all up at once and
then I have leftovers in the fridge I can just heat up, or add to a salad
or stir fry.

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

During induction, this is what I stocked the pantry, freezer and fridge
with:
Cheese (hard, aged cheese)
Eggs
Fresh meat... any kind except organ meats (they have carbs)
Fresh fish (salmon is a favorite of mine)
Salad vegetables (mushrooms, cucumbers, celery, romaine, etc.)
Frozen vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli and green beans)
Real butter
Regular, full-fat mayonnaise (not miracle whip)
Olive oil for salads
Red wine vinegar for salads... avoid balsamic
Peanut oil (for cooking)
Herbs and spices... make sure they don't have sugars added
Unflavored pork rinds... I used these often as "breading"

Best advice is to read the allowable foods list in Atkins, tailor it for
your likes. Quite simple really. Good luck!

That would be a *maximum* of 20 carbs per day...probably just a typo,
but nevertheless...

Read the material first, so you really understand it. THEN go shopping.
Save the posted grocery-list suggestions to your computer, and re-read them
later. It's really important to understand the why's, not just the how's.
There is no rush. You will be eating this way as a lifestyle, not as a
quick fix.
