Weight Loss Forum / Low Carb / January 2004Fishy Flax!
I'm guessing I just ran into my first batch of rancid flax seeds. I bought about 1 lb of them (from the bulk bins) at Whole Foods a couple of weeks (or less) ago. Today I ground some of them in my coffee grinder to make cereal, but they smelled like FISH! Somehow I thought rancid would smell ROTTON, not FISHY. It IS Linseed oil! Linseed and Flax are exactly the same seed! Flax oil tastes like old fashioned oil-based paint to me too. Because it does have hormonal properties that affect me, the only time I take it is when I get "Dry Eye" which is another of the miserable afflictions that come with middle age. A tablespoon Flax oil helps a lot, though I found that the real problem this year seemed to be that my blood pressure medication was drying me out. -- Jenny - Low Carbing for 4 years.
