What can I snack on? I have been on a 1500 calorie diet for 3 years and I
lost 150 pounds the first 3 months and haven't lost but 20 since. I am
disabled and cannot workout. What seeds or nuts are low carb? I cannot have
anything with artificial sweeteners due to allergies.

Hi, welcome to the group!  You lost 150 lbs in THREE MONTHS on 1500 calories?  
WOW!  I tend to lose VERY slowly at that.  

Seeds/nuts are not allowed during the 2 weeks of induction, but you can start
adding them after that.  Almonds and macadamias are very low carb.  I like
toasted, slivered almonds on salads.  I rarely ate macadamias before starting
this WOE, but I LOVE them now as snacks (the ones I get at Trader Joe's (the same
brand in a big can from Costco wasn't NEARLY as fresh, and they were downright
DIRTY compared to the ones at TJ's).  

Another snack I really like nowadays is a very thin ham or turkey breast slice
spread with a cream cheese/salsa mixture, then rolled up.  I also eat Ready-Crisp
bacon that you can get at Costco in a large box -- just pop them in the microwave
for about 20-40 seconds and they're done!  They satisfy a need for salt AND fat
and are very satisfying to me (and only 117 calories for 5 slices (they're wafer
thin)).  There are always veggies, of course.  Personally, I've never been big on
eating raw celery, even with condiments.  I LIKE them in salads and in cooking,
just not as the "main event".  I also highly recommend cooking up a batch of
hard-boiled eggs to keep in the fridge ESPECIALLY during the first couple of
weeks.  That way, when you want "something" and you open the fridge, there they
are, ready to eat, portable, high-protein, low-cal and low-carb.  You can stave
off hunger until your next "real" meal, or you can make a meal out of 2 or more
by combining them with other things (like salad, celery, mayo, spices, etc.).  
Really, I think HB eggs were (along with this newsgroup) a LIFESAVER during
induction.  They are also particuarly useful to have on hand when you've decided
to jump into induction, but you haven't gone shopping yet, only have some basics,
and/or aren't really sure what/how you are going to eat, but are, nevertheless,
committed.  

I have no idea what your disability is or the extent of it, and I'm certainly not
going to insist you exercise (some people here WILL).  Some people who are young
and strong and on whom everything works right cannot seem to comprehend how
difficult and/or painful that can be when your own body is, shall we say "out of
warranty" :-)  I have several physical issues to cope with.  It's SOOOO
frustrating to go to physical therapy for something and be told that you MUST do
one kind of exercise only to realize that if you do it (that way, anyway), it
will aggravate something ELSE and only compound the problem.  To my ASTONISHMENT,
however, I've managed to come up with some ways to do exercise that accommodate
those issues a good deal of the time, and it's made a HUGE difference in my
outlook on life for ME to to be able to POSITIVELY affect my body, instead of my
body NEGATIVELY affecting ME.  It gives me HOPE, which is a POWERFUL thing to
have!  I can't always do them and sometimes I have to curtail things even when I
CAN, and I have to be VERY careful, but I CAN do it 4-5 times a week IN my own
home.  If you (or anyone else, for that matter) would like me to share them with
you or if have your own suggestions on exercising with various disabilities, let

thank you Saffire, for sharing all this,  I love the snacks you suggested ,
never thought of adding salsa to my 'roll-ups'  but will tonight!   I'm on
my way out to the kitchen right now to boil up some eggs, that will help me
all week, seems I am hungry for all the wrong stuff today, never had this
urge before, but I sure do want a cookie today!  ugh   : )

Good luck on your exercising, my body is full of arthritus, but the Aleve
seems to help me more than the arthritus meds.. or even 2 aspirin  (God
bless whoever discovered them !!)

I have tried this week to take up knitting again and it seems to have helped
my wrists and fingers, but my hands are still in pain, might finish my
"eyelash scarf'   in hopes the exercise for my arthritus/hands and thumbs
find it is helpful.

A tomato has 27 calories and 4 net grams of carbs.

A cucumber has 1 gram of carbs per 52 grams.

Snacking on nuts will not be very helpful if you are stuck losing
weight.

Do you mean you were on a low-calorie diet for three years, and THEN went on
Low Carb and lost 150? That sound about like my progress. Being extremely
obese, I lost a lot of weight very fast in the first few months on LC.

Regardless of what others say, it's not necessary to work out or exercise. I
never did and never will because I too have disabilities. Of course it's good
for you, and has all kinds of benefits, but if you can't, don't worry about it.

What *exactly* are you allergic to? There are several different kinds of
artificial sweeteners, all with different ingredients. Give us more info and
maybe we can help you out.
